I am well and truly sorry that you chose to take my post that way, it was certainly not written with that intention. That is actually advice I offer everyone who gets into poultry, because this is such a common issue. Particularly in the stay in age of smartphones, it's an easy quick way to protect oneself from such frustrations to take a few minutes and become familiar with these smaller simpler characteristics of a particular breed because you cannot rely on people in a retail situation to necessarily know them all. Again what I said was not meant in any way to come across in the way that it was taken. I apologize

:idunno It came across as solid good advice to me. Facts are just that - facts.

:confused: mannnn silkies are a tricky business!
It’s just not Silkies any breed is going to have different qualities (hatchery, pet, breeder, and show) and every chick has a purpose just depends on what the owners plans or needs are for their flock. It all works out some people just want chickens to provide fresh eggs for family, some want chickens for yard pet and some want to show. It all works out.

Looking for nice people with nice things to say. Not know it alls or i told you so's. Facts arent really straightforward when youre relatively new to day old chicks so pardon me for asking a question everyone. Bye now :clap
Having already offered you a very sincere apology, I don't know what else you are looking for here.

The chick in question is a Porcelain d'Uccle. :) Just because it has 5 toes doesn't deem it a Silkie....I recently participated in a thread where a bantam Cochin possessed an extra toe. Genes can be interesting. ;)

Just for future reference, there is a hatchery who offers bantam Faverolles - Eagle Nest Poultry. :) (although they mainly sell locally, and don't supply farm stores)

Please don't feel anybody's putting you down, OP. I've come to know these folks over the years, and they're simply eager to lend a helping hand. Not sure where I'd be today without their wise counsel! While it's easy for posts to come across blunt over the internet, most aren't meant unkindly. :) We're here to inform.

very well put! Sometimes I speak my mind at the first thing I see without thinking too much and then when I see the post again the person doesn’t respond leading me to think I may have offended them but I have only an hour or two to spare sometimes and there’s so many interesting threads to check on out, I forget to be careful about what I type sometimes
