Hi there. I posted this morning about my two 26 week old silkies. I am new to chickens and read that ACV keeps mold from growing in the chicken's water. I have a nipple waterer that I added the ACV to. Since they're small, and I only have two, the water lasted them about a month. When I went to clean and refill it yesterday I found it was full of black mold. I was horrified. My poor chickens have been drinking moldy water for weeks. I posted about that this morning and got some good feedback, but now I have a new concern.

One of my chickens is having very different poops from her usual. this is what my chicken is pooping. Resembles a couple of the pictures from the poop guide. It's cold here, so she isn't tanking up on water due to heat. As far as I can tell she seems normal otherwise.

I would really appreciate any insight as far as what this poop indicates, as well as any advice on what I can do for my chickens.

My chickens have drank all kinds of nasty water over the years. They seem to like dirty puddles the best. I don't know what the poop means. Poop is different based on what they ate or drank that day. If your water was actually toxic you would have dead birds. If they are acting find generally they are.

Water should be changed daily, especially during warm weather. With only 2 chickens I would use a simple chicken waterer. I put a couple of drops of bleach in my gallon waterers, but I still change them daily. Mold can lead to aspergillosis, a fungal infection which can affect the whole body. Hopefully, you have discovered that ACV is not effective, and just use clean water. In cold temperatures water can be changed less often, but in summer, it will become scummy in a day.

Your chicken's poop looks fine.

I haven't cleaned or changed the water my chickens' waterer in several months because it neither gets moldy or gets algae growing in it. I use a 5 gallon waterer with horizontal nipples that I top off when it gets low. I am on well water. I have several pre 1982 copper pennies in it. Copper is a natural biocide and is safe for the chickens.
