Unwanted chicks after Easter

I did this 2 years ago in Va, except I took in rabbits and adopted them out to people who actually wanted them, it's so sad that people can just toss out animals

I drive my poor husband crazy b/c I will bring home any animal that needs help lol

This thread wasn't directed at everyone who buys chicks this time of year. I myself bought 2 chicks from the feed store when they got in the 'easter shippment' . And it was indeed an impulse buy. But like you said, some of us are responcible and don't make bad pet owners.
Instead this thread was directed in a way to incourage posting on craigslist to help out those who got more then they could bite off. Or rather to help the chicks of those who bought more then they could bite off.

I am one of those people that would get my kids pets for holidays and birthdays (if my husband would let me). I don't, however, go into it lightly and the current chicks are the only babies of any species we have. I truly, truly wish we had more room for chicks as I found out yesterday that our feed store has Blue andulusians and Dominiques. Do you think my husband would notice 2 more chicks?

Depending on how many are in the brooder probably not!!

I think some people don't realize that animals are a lifelong commitment. Puppies are cute, kittens are cute, chicks are cute. Then they grow up and you have to take care of them everyday. Some people get bored with this once the novelty wears off. I've seen a few people buying chicks at feed stores, and I pray those babies will have a good home because their new owners just didn't seem to realize what they were getting into. (I talked to one woman who thought she could just clean out the poo on a daily basis like you can with cat litter.) I think it's perfectly fine to plan your chick order around Easter, if your plan is to raise chickens. I don't think it's ok when people buy them because it's cute a addition to an Easter basket!!
