Update: baby deer now in proper hands

For future refrence to other members, baby fawns should not be given cows milk, goat's milk or goats milk replacent is the best thing. After every feeding the fawn's bottem should be wiped with a warm paper towel ect. in order for him/her to releave themselves. And in addition it is recomeneded not to remove fawns from the spot they are in untill they get up and begin looking for mom. Does will leave their fawns in a hiding spot and return at intervels to nurse. Below is a picture of Samantha, a little doe I raised from a day or so old. The game warden will "occasinaly" allow people to raise wild life if (and only if) they are full. I've raised many animals for my local game warden and he prefered the fawn stay with me sense 1) she had already inprinted and seperation would mean extreme emtional distress 2) They where up to their necks in fawns this year. Good luck with her, and enjoy the time you have with her

She has a bottle of water here as we where weaning her:

I used to be a wildlife rehabber. I always kept my fawns in with a nice old goat I had so they would not be alone. I'd rather they bond to her than to a human. If I didn't have that goat, I would have allowed them to just be alone though. They spend a good portion of their infancy alone anyway, waiting for their mother to come back from her foraging. The pen they lived in was part wooded and part tall grass. I would only go into the pen when it was time to feed them and never petted them. They got fresh goat milk. Allowing the fawn to be treated as a pet is doing it a huge disservice. If it bonds to humans, it will not live long in the wild. And if it is a buck deer that's bonded to humans, it can become deadly during the rut. The deer should never be petted, cuddled, or handled unecessarly by humans, no matter how cute it is. and NEVER let it be around pet dogs becaue it will lose it's natural fear of them.

What an awesome person you are. The baby is so adorable. I am so glad your kids found it and you are able to take it to where it will be well taken care of. God Bless you.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the little guy is now where he needs to be. Everything went smooth and we will miss the little cutie, but we are glad he's with those who can care for him properly. Kudos to all the rehabbers out there.
