update day 24-not good news

Equinechick, I am sorry for your loss. I will tell you this though. once my chicks started pipping I watched them like a hawk, and If I didn't see any progress in a few hours, I would help. Weither it be to use tweezers and pinch some of the shell off or something else. I know alote of people on here do not like to tell you to intervene, but I say use your better judgement. You know the situation more than we will because you are there. WATCH AND LISTEN!! 2 key words. Once again I am sorry.

I am so sorry for your loss. I just did my first hatch this month. I only have 3 out of 15 from my barn yard mix and my RIR’s I have 6 out of 13. One of the RIR’s zipped but not enough, it was to big and could not move in the shell. I didn’t catch it so it didn‘t make it. I feel like I killed it.

I didn’t even get 50%. :thun I think I have learned so much from BYC what I will have a lot better luck next time. I am bidding on eBay now. Two hours to go to see if I have 40 eggs coming. 20 RIR’s and 20 RIW’s. Good luck on your next hatch.

Thanks everyone. Hi jag my chicken friend. Well at least now I found what the problem was. I had a digital therometer/hygrometer in with the ones that went bad. I always thought that one was correct in temp but I guess that could go bad. Anyways I placed it in with the 2nd batch that has a combo but it works by mercury. It is used for reptiles and the lady at the petstore tested it before i bought it a couple of weeks ago. I placed the digital in with the other batch and did I get an eye opening. It's temp was off by 4-5 degrees and the humidity was reading 90% when my other one read 68%. So I placed another therometer that was digital in with them and it ranged with the mercury therometer. I know the thing was accurate before and I feel like I killed my chicks. My dh told me I need to move on and think about this weeks hatch. He went and ordered me while I was at work the hovabator preset incubator. What a great hubby I have. He said he can't take me crying over a bunch of eggs. I just have the lg and I really don't think it was the incubators fault but having a faulty therometer and I would prefer to not be bothered by the craziness of temp ranging.
Everyone has been very supportive especially you ebony and stevie. Wish me luck on this weeks hatch.

I hope you do good on those maran eggs. It was not your fault as you did not know the hygro was faulty. Your hubby ogt you a new set of eggs? Do you know when they are comming in? I have a couple sets comming this week and hope we will both have a good hatch in a few weeks.

P.S. Dont let a bad hatch get to you. It happens from time to time. Thank you for the compliment

I contacted the seller of the americauna eggs they came with a gurantee and she is going to send me another batch of eggs. I have marans in another incubator they are due to hatch on thursday. They go off the turner today. I candled them early this morning. I have 4 that are clear. There are 11 I can't see through(they are very dark) and about 7 definites. I'm nervous about them but very hopeful. I'm bidding on a few auctions on ebay right now with a particular seller and we are waiting for one to finish before she sends them all out. So far I have blue andulusians, buff orps and welselmers coming next week. We are still waiting on my duck eggs. They won't be here til next week. We will probally use the lg for them with the good hygrometer. My dh is stopping by the petstore tonight to buy another hygrometer from them just so we are sure what the humidity is.
