Way to go generalising a whole workforce ole rooster. Interesting that you have that conception about me, whom you've never met..... I want you to know that I have worked at the post office for over 21 years. I know over 200 postal employees, and I can say that not a one of them 'thinks the world bows at their feet and just don't care'. They are all just a general representation of the rest of the population. Other than we have a VERY high percentage of veterans in the workforce. Many Vietnam vets where I work. A few 'Desert Storm'. I myself am a widowed mother of three, with one child left at home. yeah, we have a few lazy people. But we have a far higher number of people who work very hard, are very concientious, and go home at the end of the day, having worked hard. We work terrible hours. Typically 3:30 p.m to midnight, or midnight to eight thirty or so. The few of us who have managed to get into day time jobs are d@mned lucky. You have no idea of the complexities involved with processing billions of pieces of mail every day. 6 days (nights) a week. It's all done by machines, baby.... Outgoing, one sort plan. Incoming, another sort plan... Carrier routing, yet another sort plan. I would estimate that each letter-sized mail-piece goes through a minimum of two sorting machine, and up to 6 or 7 machines. It does take a toll on an envelope. Count every letter sized piece of mail you receive in one month, and tell me how many of them are actually 'torn to shreds'? One? None? You know what, though? We are human. Sometimes things happen that are beyond our control. I don't know about you, but I don't claim to be perfect.... I do claim to work really hard, and I give my customers the best of myself. I try to every day, but you know what??? Sometimes I get sick (and go to work anyway, because we are short-handed). Sometimes I am just having a bad day... Sometimes I am trying to do three or four things at the same time, and I get distracted. I still give my best effort every day, and I work with many many others who do. So, I call BS.....
