UPDATE!!! favus treatment not working Ideas? NEW pics???

Thanks for all the replies....I will be treating for northern fowl mite as i have noticed something clumping on the ends of the feather nearest to the skin....I previously thought that they where molting or rooster abuse...He is a pretty frisky guy.....My question is can I put flea and mite powder that you buy at the feed store in the dusting baths? They are very heavy users of the dusting areas and I am pretty sure it would make my job 10 times easier if they could self dust.....

Now I have been inspecting my chickens every night before bed....I am still treating with anti-fungal cream.....for suspected favus....90% of the hens are looking better except for my guy with the screwed up comb.....I think I am finally getting on top of the whole situation....The yellow spots on his wattles near is beak crust over like that then peel...why is it harder to get rid of it on him.....Could it be his nasty frost bite.....he is the only one with frostbite by the way....does anyone know why that would happen....I've been protecting his comb and he still seems to be prone to it...ugh!! I think I'll change his name from Opie, to Hopeless

This is just my theory, but the rooster's comb sits up higher than the hens...so maybe that would predispose him to getting frostbite? Just a theory.

Yes, you can put the insecticide powder in the dusting areas...just be aware that if it is getting rained on, the medication might wash away pretty quickly. I hope it is sheltered from the rain. I have used a concrete mixing trough (black) from Home Depot before, filling it with some sand and Sevin dust. Only thing is they didn't use it much...bummer.

If you do decide to manually apply it, take precautions such as long sleeves, take a shower afterwards, mask, gloves, etc.
What I do is put the dust in an old sock and tie off the top of the sock. This saves a lot of $, as you use much less to powder puff them. Make sure you get under the wings, vent area, and avoid the face.

If the permethrin dust doesn't work (due to resistant mites in some parts of the country) the Sevin dust should work well. I have used both.
