I do want to try to do as much as I can own my own, BUT.... Yes if I need pain meds I will ask not going to kill myself trying to give birth !!!

If you were to have another would you use any meds ??

If I were to have another I still wouldn't use any meds. Only for the fact that for my last birth I wasn't in any real pain until I got to 8cm. I was dialated 5cm for 3 weeks before I really went into labor. It really does get easier the more you have. That's just been my experience though. It only took my mom a total of 45 minutes from start to finish to have me. If only it could be like that for everyone. By all means if your in so much pain go for the meds, I wouldn't blame you a bit. It's different for everyone.

WOW !!! must run in the family, some are lucky like that !!! I do belive some handle pain better than others !!! I would at least like to be able to walk around during labor so I will see how far I can make it without any !!

My advice to you...I give all first time mothers ...is Scream like the dickens !!! even if your feelin' no pain...because you'll have your hubby eating from your hands....he will do ANYTHING for you !!!
Worked for me...that was my advice from a friend....
hee hee hee!!
It will be the start of a new chapter in your life...all the best...

Congratulations! This is such and awesome time. Seems everyone is having babies right now. I cannot wait to have my second baby. Unfortunealtly I have to plan a huge wedding first wich seems like a century away (Oct!). Sometimes I think im just going to call it all off and go to the court house! Good luck with everything. Hope you and your baby are healthy as can be. PS I am a wimp for pain I had the epidural put in when my contractions were one minute apart. It was always part of the plan, however my first labor went ALOT more quickly than anyone thought it would. Only 45 min of pushing after my water was broken.

Gotta tell this story about my poor DH... he'll never be able to live this down.

Okay, with DS #2, (which was DH's 1st child and his 1st time "experiencing" childbirth... I was married before) I went into labor around 8pm. Waited a couple of hours and then decided to head to the hospital to have me checked since I was 13 days overdue. So when we got to the hospital around 10pm it was DH's bedtime (he's like clockwork) and he had worked all day. Granted, he was tired. I got checked and the doctor told me I could go home if I wanted to. The weather was threatening that night (it snowed the next day) so I asked if I could stay and walk the halls for a while. My first labor had been 42 hours long so I was mentally prepared for another LONG wait for baby, just wanted to hang around some. Doc said okay so DH and I proceeded to walk the halls. A little while later it was obvious that my labor was progressing so I was admitted. My hospital room had one of those fabulous big tubs that moms can labor in, so I got in there for a while. Heaven. Suddenly everything changed and I felt a little frantic and crazy. I know now that I was at 8cm and was in the "transition stage" of labor... didn't know it then. The nurse checked me and said it was time to get ready for baby to make his entrance. So I get out of the tub and get on the bed. Nurse is making the necessary preparations for the birth, and by this point I'm in MAJOR pain (this baby was coming quickly... and naturally) and DH is in a chair SLEEPING!

I will never, ever forget that nurse looking over at my sleeping DH and saying, "Excuse me sir but your wife is in a lot of pain. You need to wake up." He got up and sheepishly came over to me, and mere minutes later (the doc barely made it in the room) our son was born. I did use DH's hand to bite down on, hard, as I was pushing DS out. Payback.

BTW, the baby was born at 2:10 a.m. and I've never regretted listening to my instincts and staying at the hospital instead of going home.

i spent 2 weeks at 3cm, finally started having contraction got to the hosipital found out i had a infection and a high fever so they started 2 ivs with a total of 5 iv bags on two pumps one of which was pitocin to speed things along , i got pain meds a hour after i got admitted they knocked me out! i got my epidural at 6cm, 3hours before i gave birth. in labor 19 hours, she was born at 4pm the hospital served dinner at 5pm, they didn't give me a tray because they still had a no food/liquids on the door

at 7p i asked for my dinner and was told the kitchens closed where's the tray they brought? i told them i didn't get one, turns out a nurse ate mine! make sure to have someone that can go get food for you!!!

More advice!! SLEEP SLEEP SLEEP !!! 3 kids and none slept through the night til they were 3 years old! A cousin of mine had 3 and they slept through the night at 8 weeks old. I don't know what she did and she said "nothing"but there has to be a secret! I am FINALLY sleeping through the night after 8 years! So sleep and relax as much as you can until he arrives!!

All 4 of mine were sleeping through the night by 6 weeks, thank the Good Lord! I didn't do anything special that I know of, but I think the fact that they were big babies... 9.9, 9.2, 9.5 & 8.8 pounders, respectively... coupled with the fact that I breastfed them may have been the main factors.
