very cool and awesome i'm so jealous but my brother in law did tell me yesterday that i could use anything in his building to make my coop with and it's full of all sorts of stuff i can use
That was so nice of him....Im waiting for my free coop to be delivered myself, my friend has two pigeon coops and I only want the one so he said he is gonna burn the other one
.....I told him to put it on craigslist and he said he can't be bothered,
I asked my brother if he was available to help load it up into the guys truck this weekend. So looks like I'll be headed over on Saturday afternoon to help load it up. I want to stop by my friends house and pick up some eggs from her to take to him. She always has an abundance and is always pushing her eggs on us before we need them LOL.
She reminded me that it all comes full circle and being the good person I am rewards just find their way to you. I've had the best year I swear. I am also picking up some 2 month old Black Jersey Giant pullets from a gal this weekend. She wants to make room for some other chickens since the Jersey's just are so slow to grow. I wanted some of those SO bad. It will work out perfect. They can go out in the coop this weekend and I can keep them separate from my other girls, that are in the bathroom, to make sure no one gets sick. YAY!
My daughter and I are sewing curtains out of easter egg place-mats we bought on sale. I'm picking up some 1x2 from a lattice that was torn apart to build the attached run with.
I can't wait to post pictures! The best part of all of this was talking to all these neat people. Getting phone calls and having great discussions with the people about my chickens and learning a bit about them. People are so interesting really. One gentleman, the one giving me the 1x2s, got to talking to me about Aspergers because his niece is an Aspy too. He said he has dyslexia and he wishes when he was a kid that teachers were as active with the kids as they are now. He did say his sister teaches children to read that have delays in reading and he gave me a suggestion tip from her that works for him. Buy some colored transparency sheets from the craft store and place one on a page. Whichever color works best is the one to use for you or your child. It helps them separate the words from the page more so it's easier to focus on the letters. Neat huh!?

That is the best! I was really stressing about getting enough materials. I wasn't expecting to need a coop so fast. My friend said it was about 8 weeks for her before she really needed one. My girls were out of the brooder after a week and they love it outside. It's warming up even on wet days now so a good warm coop would be perfect for them at 4 weeks (well they will be 5 in 3 days) Right now my bathroom is a glorified coop, complete with bedding on the floor and a roost. No joke. I tried turning the heat lamp off today and they were fine but when the sun went down and it was way dark in there they started making a huge fuss so I turned it back on lol. I'm such a sucker.
I'm on a super tight income right now. My ex-husband very generously sends me a large child support to pay all necessary living expenses while I complete my masters degree and raise our daughter. He had to move out of state so he can't help as much. I get extra $$ a few times a year from my scholarship and grants and that was what I was planning to use to build the coop in May. Good thing this all worked out the way it did. I don't mind the girls in the bathroom, but it is awkward to tell people to watch out for the chickens when they come over.
