One of my roosters (the sussex) who just came down with the Mareks was holding his own with the use of the hpercium remedy and the colostrum, but this morning when I checked on him, he is having trouble breathing, like he is gasping for breath(beak open). I can only guess that it may be a tumor on his lung from the Mareks. He is 6 months. He has not been eating well, I have tried everything to tempt him but no luck. At this point I am thinking it may be too late for him
There are no vets who treat any kind of poultry in my area. I was hoping I could have a vet euthanize him ( sorry, I just can't be violent toward my pets) I am heartbroken over this as he seemed to be picking up since we started the homeopathic remedy and the colostrum. My other roo, a barred rock, who has had it since he was 6 weeks old, has been eating and drinking well. He has a sparkle in his eyes and since giving the hypercium and colostrum, has gained some strength in his legs. Sometimes he is up on his hocks as opposed to lying flat all the time. Both have been isolated from the other birds. My concern is the hen which my sussex was housed with. I am giving her colostrum in hopes to build up her immunity to the Mareks Only time will tell. Anyone have any other suggestions? I have been cleaning and disinfecting carefully. Also, my birds don't seem to be interested in table scraps. I have offered cottage cheese, yogurt, also some cooked carrots. No luck. Any ideas?
This whole thing with the Mareks is hitting me especially hard as I love all my birds. Now I am worried about my Java's which are still in a brooder in my basement. They are 5 weeks old this week. I am so discouraged at this point. I didn't expect to have this serious a problem so soon, considering I have been really careful about housing, food, and water.
