Update on my Boy **home 8-8-08**

Sorry about the delay in updating. It's been a crazy few days.

We were discharged Saturday morning with a clean chest x-ray and lots of meds for home. Got home and was working on getting my boy re-aquainted to home life.

He had a rough day Saturday, slept terribly Saturday night, and was a bit better Sunday afternoon. We gently swung on the swings, and he played in the sand a bit.

Sunday night was terrible. He didn't sleep hardly at all and when he did sleep, it was only for a half hour at most, but finally dropped into a decent sleep around 2:30 AM, only to wake up at 4:30 AM with a raging fever, and he wasn't breathing right.

So, we came back down here to Children's emergency room, where a chest x-ray showed another pleural effusion. We were direct admitted to the PICU, where a new chest tube was inserted, and when he came out of sedation, we were brought back up to the cardiac unit.

He drained 194 cc's yesterday in the PICU, they changed the drain, he drained another 162 cc's, and he's got about 30 cc's in the new drain they put on today. So, if you figure there's 30 cc's in an ounce, he's put out almost 13 ounces of fliud.

It's just nuts. We're SO broke, we're not sure what we're going to do. Our electric at home was actually disconnected today, even though they said they would work with us. I have no idea what we're going to do. Social services is helping us out, but it takes up to six weeks to get the funds to the companies, so we're going to have to find someone to lend us some money.

Just not what we need right now.
I'll keep you all updated as I can.
Thanks for the prayers.

Oh Em, I'm so sorry. I hate that things are going so rough for you all right now. We will definitely keep praying for you all and hope that little angel boy gets better very soon.

Inform your power company about the Katie Braice Laws. They state that you can not shut off the utilities to a home where the child is physically disabled (heart conditions count). Its a fedral law and you can sue.

Oh. I am so sorry that this is so hard for all of you. I've mentioned it before, but I'll mention it again. Churches have funds to help out folks in dire circumstances. Yours counts. Ask your church if you have one and have friends, family and neighbors ask their churches for help. They won't ask you to pay it back so it doesn't have an impact later when you are trying to get on your feet. What is the worst that happens ... they say no. May God bless you during these hard days and may you call on Him for strength to hold on. I'll continue to pray at 1:15 PM EST for your little guy.

That is very useful information. I would call the company and be sure you have power on when you get home, you dont need to deal with that right now.

Stay strong, moms are some of the strongest people in the world!

Exactly. Be firm. Talk to 9 people if you have to...hope you don't but I've gone through something similar myself before I was told something COULD happen to rectify the situation. Persist...persist...persist.

And the mention of a church family...I don't know if you have one or if you do not...but if you do not, so many times the church body is VERY open to recieving calls within the community and stepping in to assist when there is such a need. Don't be afraid, don't be ashamed, think of a church, think of 2-3 churches that come to your mind and go ahead and call & ask to talk to the Pastor...even if he/she has to get back to you and open your heart.

The body of Christ is a blessing...let your community members know your struggles...and you and your family will be blessed...you will be weak in the knees with the love and gifts you recieve. And heck, you may even find a church home.

My husband is in Iraq and I've had home, car, appliance problems, me and the girls have gotten real sick and our church family has been right there...sending dh care pkgs, bringing us 11 bags of food, a grocery card, money to help w/ repairs or guys in the church who can assist, the youth group painted after our water damage, the ladies clubs gave my girls Christmas gifts, Easter Baskets....I tell you today, Christ loves you...He knows we can't do it alone...reach out. Let God take some of the burden. Ok?

Hugs to you,
Gretchen
