Update on New baby from under...

I am hoping so as well. She still has about ten eggs under her. We started with three broody girls and thirty eggs, but one girl decided to quit and I had to move her eggs under my other two girls, so whatever happens I will be pleased. At least one more would be great so this baby has a friend.

Ok, update on my girls and hatch. First mom gave up the day after my chick from down under was born, would not stay with him or the other eggs for more than a few minutes at a time, kept going out of the nest into the run area and he was trying to keep up with her, he was getting cold, and she was stepping on him, so I removed him, sigh, not what I wanted but ok. She had ten eggs left to go. But she quit.

So her eggs went under my other hen. That poor girl was sitting on about twenty eggs. And she was a trooper. Number two chick was born on Tuesday, so I took her and put her with number one chick so he would have a buddy.

Final baby was Wednesday. She was peeping at about 6AM when hubby checked on my big girl. We had a long day in town and when we got home we were expecting another one hatched, but it was almost silent by then. So we brought her in and over the next several hours helped her hatch out. She is called miracle as I really feel she was almost a goner.

Out of 30 eggs and three hens we ended with three chicks and one mommy who made it to the end. These were shipped from Texas to us in Hawaii so any surviving was a real long shot. Never again will we do this, we will wait for our others to start laying eggs that are fertile.

Here are our pictures. Starting from top is miricle in pic 1 and 2, pic three is the second chic born her name is prescious, pic 4 is Repeat he was first born. The two are silkies and he is a mutty.
