Update on Penny the Pekin

HI BYC friends,

I'm so thankful for all of the support, ideas, and help that so many of you have offered for my duck Penny. I wanted to give an update, and also document her situation on this forum in case anyone else encounters a similar situation with their duck. She had her recheck appointment yesterday after being on the latest antibiotic for 30 days. Her infection continues to spread, and my other duck, Puddles, has it as well, though they appear as happy and hearty as ever. We are switching to a couple of different antibiotics (Clavamox and Tylan powder in the water), an ingestible fungal medicine (Terbinafine), and a weekly injection for parasites, just to try to cover all the bases. We'll check again in two weeks to see if there is any improvement. If not, the next step would be a skin biopsy, which is quite costly, and I'm not sure I can go that route. I'm feeling discouraged that this infection is so strong - we've been fighting it now for 2.5 months. Praying that some of these newest interventions do the trick!

Glad to hear she is still getting along and living her life to the fullest! I feel your discouragement, I have a limping silkie I can't afford x-rays or surgery. Keep your chin up and keep doing what you can. Best wishes coming your way!!!
