*UPDATE* Ordered Assorted Cochin Bantam Special from Ideal

they wont, they wont let you choose a shipping method either. I was told that extra bedding would be added, and it was noted on the order AND that the males would be marked.... NONE of the above!

The way I deal with hatcheries like that is I never do business with them again and warn others not to. I realize some of these problems arise from idiots working for USPS, but hatcheries can take extra precautions too. Ideal gave me disastrous genetics in the past. Never again.

Although all my chicks from my last order from Ideal all survived, the ducks included did not. I did not have any postal delays and the PO called me at 6a.m. per my request, as soon as they came in, and I immediately went to pick them up. However, Ideal did a HORRIBLE job sexing and my order of pullets turned out to be 7 roosters and 5 hens. We eventually had to butcher the roosters so I'm back to square one on getting more girls for eggs. I wasn't very pleased with the customer service either - seemed kind of rude on the phone. They did refund me the money I paid for the ones that turned out to be roos though. I ended up ordering ducks from Metzer's instead after the ones from Ideal arrived dead, and was happy to see that Metzer offers the option to send them with gro-gel AND heat packs. Those little girls and guys arrived super happy and healthy! This year I am going to my local feed store and picking up chicks and trying that out - they don't use Ideal so hopefully I won't end up with such a bad ratio of sexing this time...

Chicks after warming up,after this video one more died so 9 still alive.

All the chicks on the second shipment made it

I got 18 cochin bantams and what looks like 6 barred rock roos as packing peanuts.

So if they all make it from here on out I will have 27 cochin bantams.

Thankfully you were able to save 9 of them! I'm glad the second batch arrived happy and healthy
