UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!! Please Help!!!!!!!!!!! Chickens Murdered in DeBary Florida!!!!!

That poor boy deserves his pet chickens!!

Yes, he deserves his pet chickens. Seems the doctor prescribed the chickens. Wonder how that would hold up against a council..."we have a dr's perscription for chickens!" too bad it was only verbal, would be interesting to see what would happen if it was written on a prescription form. Anyway, Hope he can at least keep some of the chickens and I hope the family will consider better fencing/security.

just my 2 cents. regardless if the chickens were killed by man or beast. chickens have a very calming effect on the mind. i will share this on open forum only because i feel this is a valid point.
people who have emotional or hindered minds find chickens soothing. there have been studies on the moods of people in nursing home environments who actually thrive better in the presence of these birds.
in my personal experience i suffer from p.t.s.d. whenever i find myself in a panic type state i will go observe the chickens. in a matter of moments my mind and body calm
i wanted to see the reaction of others who have p.t.s.d. . i invited some guys over who served in vietnam . all our conclusions were the same. the birds have an effect on the mind that seems to slow down the racing thoughts.
some of those guys come 2x per month to observe the birds.
i will assume in autism the mind is relaxed in the presence of the birds.

humm !!! i wonder if i can get a government grant to run a study. you know i will need at least 2 million to run the study.

Were the heads still in the coop ? I doubt a person would have taken the heads with them and left a few alive. Maybe it was a coon. Let's hope that no one would be so heartless as to kill that little boys birds.
Exactly!

People are too quick to play the Blame Game, when animals do things, because they broke the law in the first place and don't want to take responsibility for the problems it brings. Why would any parent buy illegal chickens for a little boy and break his heart when he has to give them up? Why didn't these people ask the neighbors if they had any objections to chicken and ask them for signatures on a petition to change a law instead of just doing what they wanted to, even though they knew it was illegal? Maybe it was the Rooster they objected to? If a law is bad, work to change it, Don't just break it, because you feel you don't have to obey it!! If people want to raise chickens, there are lots of places to move to where they are LEGAL ! The parents should be ashamed of themselves for doing this to their little boy!

Just because a doctor prescribes marijuana, doesn't make it legal to grow it ! I seriously doubt that a doctor would suggest a "Chicken" specifically. Sounds like the parents wanted and got the chickens and then noticed the 2 year old's reaction to it ! My grandson is artistic also, so don't think I don't know what I am talking about, but I would MOVE elsewhere if it would help my child. I would not just break the law, as if I was more entitled , than anyone else in the town. What Heartless Parents !!! That poor little boy !!!

Bruce, I know what you mean. In most nursing homes I know of they often allow pets like a dog. and have groups that bring animals for visits as therapy and it is legal to do so. I also suffer from p. t. s . d. , and am really old and my grandson is artistic, so I moved to a rural community where I can keep chickens, legally!
Good luck on that GRANT !!!! LOL

I am the owner of the chickens, and the father of JJ. The heads were cleanly taken off. No part of the birds were eatten. My other baby chicken was let out while they were killing the others. The police said they have seen many animal attacks and this was not animal. I disagree with him on this the person who killed my chickens is an animal. Who could do that to the little boys chicken after seeing him with his chicken on TV.

I'm so sorry about what happened, what that person did is wrong and I hope he/she realizes the horrible thing he/she did... I also have a special place in my heart for one of my hens David (we thought it was a roo) she calms me down because I get stressed easily, I feel so sorry for JJ, he must of loved that chicken a lot... Try getting a petition about it.

If you have a medical card it is legal to grow weed. At least in cali. There is a limit on the amount but I don't remember what it is.

I agree though, especially with kids involved it would have probably been better to go about it differently if you knew you were buying illegal animals. Perhaps a variance could have been gotten in advance because of the medical conditions. Hopefully it can still be worked out.

Were it was person or coon the coop is not predator safe based on the picture. SilkyGirl1438 you may want to consider adding hardware cloth to the bottom 3 ft. if you keep raising chickens. Raccoons will do exactly what you described also. Take the heads clean off right through chicken wire. Good luck. I hope you get to keep them. If not perhaps a bird you can keep inside? I had doves when I was little and they hung out with me all day and were also soothing and have personalities. There are always creative options to problems. Wishing you the best.
