Update: they're alive! (was: I candled and left the 'bator off...)

I put the eggs in a carton, carry them to the next room which has blacked out windows, candle, mark, return, grab more if I have more than a dozen, and repeat until they are all candled. It hasn't harmed any and I've done it daily when I had fewer than 6 eggs. I was told it takes on average 15mins for the inside of the egg to cool. I just try to finish and put them back within 10mins so they have time for the incubator to come back up to temp. If I was doing a cabinet with more than a few dozen eggs I would definitely not use light bulbs. Too much risk of them burning out or other things going wrong. There have to be better heaters than that.

OTS, that's exactly what I do... They are very easy to see in the turner.

There are two light bulbs in my 'bator in case one should burn out, and it's a small cabinet with one 35 egg turner rack.

she was saying that th ebator has a light in it so if she tried to candle she couldnt see so she has to turn it off to make th elite go off

Update: the duck eggs all look viable! Turkens are at day 5, so I can't tell anything yet.

Sara, yes, I use lights for my incubator & the eggs are all in a turner, so I flip off the light and candle the eggs in the turner.

The sign above the 'bator is going to work well for me... It's easy for me to remember to always flip the sign before I touch the dreaded switch.

I'll take all the credit for the little ones being OK....CONGRATULATIONS and I hope all goes well from here for you..........
