Thanks for the links. Understanding mg/kg is one thing. Converting it to usable dosage tends to be another.
But that's not hard... One just needs to know how much their bird weighs, what the recommended dose for that species is and the number of mg/ml of the medication to be used.
The formula is weight of bird in pounds, divide by 2.2 (that converts pounds to kg), times the mg/kg, divide number of mg/ml and the answer is the dose needed for that bird.
Here's an example using pour on ivermectin.
Five pound bird
Recommended dose is 0.5mg/kg
Pour on ivermectin is 0.05%, which means it's 5mg/ml (5mg ivermectin in one ml).
5 ÷ 2.2 x 0.5 ÷ 5 = 0.227ml
