Updated - Corid and Amprol (amprolium) Dosing

What is the dose of toltrazuril for a peachick? mine are 8weeks now and outside in their big aviary. I should start doing preventative treatment.

I started toltrazuril as well at about 5 weeks when my Peachicks were first going outside. They are over 9 weeks now and outside full time. Their enclosure is on on a concrete pad for now, but I don’t want to take any chances with coccidiosis. I use the 5% powder. It didn’t come with a scoop for measuring, so I’m “winging” it. I mix it in a mash weekly and they gobble it all up. I purchased this off Amazon.

I do have some pharmacology knowledge and was unable to find the LD50 for poultry/fowl, but given the wide dosing range for poultry, seems a slight overdose would not have any severe consequences.

6 to 25 mg/kg PO QD; repeat after 5 days, or administered in drinking water for 2 days at 0.0125 g/L.

There is no LD-50 for poultry because it is not approved in the US for poultry. We can't use it for meat and eggs for human consumption. It is because we don't intend to eat our Peafowl or their eggs that we feel safe using toltrazuril in the chicks for treating cocci.

I just tried to mix some with water, this liquid
ToltraMax won't mix well, it leaves a white slime on the surface and on the container. I'm going to guess it isnt water soluble.

For that powder, "administered in drinking water for 2 days at 0.0125 g/L." how would you measure out .0125 grams per liter? I mean... thats an impossibly small amount to measure...

I did some groking on the 5% liquid dosing... if you give it as is out of the bottle...

"The recommended dosage of toltrazuril 5% liquid for peachicks (young peafowl) to treat or prevent coccidiosis is generally 7 mg/kg of body weight, administered orally for two consecutive days. For a 5% solution (50 mg/mL), this translates to 0.14 mL per kg or approximately 0.066 mL per pound of body weight per dose. "

so drawing it out with a U-100 insulin syringe...

"
Measuring 0.066 mL with a U-100 0.3 mL Syringe
  1. Locate the Markings: Your syringe should have graduations every 0.01 mL (1 unit). For 0.066 mL, you’re aiming for 6.6 units. Insert the syringe into the bottle and pull the plunger to just past the 6-unit mark (0.06 mL). Slowly adjust to 6.6 units by estimating halfway between the 6-unit (0.06 mL) and 7-unit (0.07 mL) marks."
Adjusting that dose for a chick smaller than 1lb, Thats a very tiny dose. I have the idea, maybe empty that droplet into a mealworm.... they eat those in one gulp.

If there is any flaw in my logic please point and tell me. lol
