Yeah, something is not right.
The powder bottle is pictured on my post and shows the dosing for the powder in the picture.

The quote about the dosing from the PoultryDVM website was to show the wide dosing range. Please note the difference between milligram total dosing per bird and the gram level put in drinking water. 1000 fold difference. Apologies for any confusion.

Route is all personal preference. For me, I feel more comfortable with the powder mixed in a mash as they eagerly eat it all.

When we deworm we mix into mash, it is such a great way to administer meds when birds are not sick.

So.. I'm in the kitchen lab today mixing some meds for the outdoor cats and I figured I'd do some experiments. What I have is this 5% toltrazuril liquid and it is thicker than milk and not water soluble... I I tried the mealworm injection idea. Nope, this U100 syringe is too fine, it wont draw it. Neither will other normal ga needles, fine enough to inject a worm. So, for my chicks size.. 8 weeks, didnt weight them but lets say 8oz for example. The dose for an 8oz chick is .033ml.

That is quite literally... a drop. Since this stuff is thicker than milk, I tried something....

Drip the .033ml on the worm. it puts a nice coating on most of it, and frankly I think if you just dipped the mealworm in the liquid you'd get not much more than .033ml on it.

So... to keep things simple, if you take a small mealworm and simply dip it in the liquid, you have a dose for an 8oz chick. Feed them 2 if they are 16oz...3 if they are 24oz ect ect.

I tried this several times... .033ml applied to a sm mealworm coats it, and side by side its no different than a dipped worm.

I don't know what the dose safety margin is for a peachick, but it has to be more than .01ml so if you get a tiny bit more on or the worm is med sized... I mean... really.

So... open the bottle, put some in a spoon, dip the mealworm and present it to the bird... mine will take your finger off for a mealworm.

Seems like a simple solution for having only 4 baby birds... feel free to tell me if I made an error in my calcs.

Anyone actually know what the safety margin for toltrazuril in peafloul actually is?

I shoulda weighed them first... one is 2lb the other 3 are 1lb11oz +/- an oz.

Now I have to redu the math....
