We always have little birds in our backyard due to the trees and low bushes and shrubs that grow here. I am sure the feeders and chicken feed also help draw them in
The last two days we have been soaked by two storms. I went out Saturday morning to collect eggs and a little bird flew out of the plants behind the coop. It could not fly far and could not fly over 6 inches off the ground. I tried to collect it up since a new neighbor moved in with a bunch of cats that run loose and I have been finding their cat's in my yard
I couldn't catch it. It was pouring down rain and the wind was blowing well enough for it to get up into a low branch of one of the bushes. I was happy with that at least it was off of the ground.
That afternoon I went to pick up feed and came home to my kid's with this little cutie in a shoe box. Our dog was tring to dig it out from behind the feed barrel by the chicken coop. It was soaking wet, shivering, and STARVING!
I now know why it can not fly that well either.... She will be going this afternoon the the local Wildlife Center's vet to see if they can do anything to help her out.
I believe it is a female House Sparrow... but I can not find my bird book.
Here is her leg the poor thing it is nasty looking !!
