Last year I actually had a polish girl sitting on eggs when Mommy hen would get up for a break! I swear it's contagious

So, swheat, when are you getting your bantam ducks?? All bantam chickens, but Muscvoy ducks??!! Runners don't count 'cause they're tall, but still light

There is a minimum for the ducklings, but the adults they'll do pairs. My pair was hatched out in I think May of 09 (definitely 2009, not sure if I'm correct on the month

). I just sucked it up and went for the adults because I didn't want to order the minimum # of ducklings... As much as I love my duckies, I can only handle so much of their messiness

I had thought about trying to find someone to "split" an order with, but people are people, and I figured I'd probably wind up with all of them anyway.

That sounds good, I wonder if it would be too cold to ship adults to Alaska in the winter. I guess they are pretty hardy. I am not seeing any fertilized eggs, so am thinking maybe I need a drake. I'm going to hold off for a little while and see, but every egg I've opened just has the small white dot. I got 5 eggs this morning with 7 ducks.

Well, Holderreads is in Oregon. I'd imagine it gets pretty cold there? They only ship adult birds Starting in October - February (unless they sell out first). The explanation for this, according to their web site, is to prevent the birds from over heating. Also says that since ducks and geese have some of the best down coats of any animal, the cold isn't uncomfortable for them. I can believe that... Every duck and goose I know is a member of the Polar Bear Club

Oh yeah, I was worried about putting the small ducks in with my big pekins... I should have been worried about my pekins being in with the little guys! The little buggers are faster than Weeble & Wobble, and they put the hammer down on the situation pretty fast
