s(he) is now around 4 weeks old. as you can see, there's a little wattle development too. is it a breed thing? or do you think this lady is really a gentleman?? definitely the dominant bird of the flock.
thanx for lookin'

thanx, guys. these are my first chickens but he seems to definitely have that boy energy about him. he's becoming a bit of a bully also. is that normal? always running around, up in everyone's business! and doling out head-pecks for anyone he deems to be out of line. oh well, i guess i'll try and keep him, as long as he minds his manners.

The comb and wattles are pretty roo-ish, but the barring is really the tell tale sign for me. I think the barring on a hen would be much darker. I have two that are a couple of weeks older, their barring is much darker.

mervin, thanx. i know time will tell but i just can't wait! i really REALLY wanted a BR hen! argh!!! maybe next year

i have a partridge barred rock that will just have to do until then i guess. looks like i've got some re-naming to do also. maybe napoleon, lol.

Owning Barred Rocks comes with 2 rules which are..........

Number 1 rule is if it has white on black bars it is male black on white bars it is female.
Number 2 rule is if it crows or lays you will know for sure roo or hen.
It looks like a roo to me from the picture

Good luck to you
