UPDATED-PICS-Yeehaw I can join the Hatching Craze I have an Incubator

I'm patiently waiting for the Sultan-Jap Bantam (Sunny-Goldie) crosses to hatch, I know they will start in 2 days.
I'm not sure when the last 3 Mille Fleur will hatch tho. It would be neat if they would start hatching at the same time.
I have 3 Mille Fleur in the brooder, 2 Silkie and 2 Mille Fleur out with Bar-b growing nicely. I even get to keep 1 roo (Mille Fleur) for a bit (to have to mate with Goldie when it's old enough) Yeehaw, it's nice to be able to convince Mom to keep a roo. And she will convince Dad it's the best way to keep Goldie with fertile egg production.
The only hen that isn't producing fertile eggs at this time is Mom's Sultan hen, I think she won't allow Sunny to mate with her. Stubborn hen

"keep a roo" I am thinking instantly to myself: "Holy ...., keep a Roo she says..How is that possible?" Cause we got millions of Roos here. Kangaroos...

We have a neighbor who hates roosters, and requested that my parents not have roos on their property. Yes he's an adult, and was attacked as a kid, so has been terrified of roos since...
Yes I've been

ever since I heard his story.
So if we can convince Dad to let us keep 1 Mille Fleur D'Uccle roo in the LF coop we are doing good. We have been working on dad since last fall to convince him that we need at least 1 roo, and nothing against a Sultan, but we need at least 1 roo outside in order to produce non-hatchery birds.
The Sultan roo to me isn't an outside chicken, even in TX it still gets too cold in the winter for the Sultan breed. And that's the only roo we have.

I'll keep working on him until I convince him.

Awhhh that's sad about your neighbour, attacked as a child by a roo...

I think he should get a baby chick in a box left at his doorstep... hope it's a "roo"

Anyway my quails are loud enough, let alone a rooster crowing in suburbia, Melbourne!! Now you got me wondering if there's anything that can be done to quiet a rooster without going on the dinner table?

Cheers...

I heard there's a man in Dallas trying to breed a quieter roo, He's using 3 different breeds, but I haven't gone to check his out yet.
I heard the neighbor was lucky it was a roo that picked on him, if it had been a banty hen with chicks he'd have a real affliction.

HAPPY EASTER
jumpy.gif
to any who read my thread...

I was hoping for an Easter hatching, but none so far. Goldie's 1st egg should have hatched yesterday. Tho, I read in a thread that if the bator/egg temp gets lower than 99.5 it'll change the hatch date. That means every time I candle them, which is once a week til day 18, they cool down and it extends the hatch date. I candled the eggs on the 18th and they showed definite growth.
Hopefully they'll start hatching soon,

patiently waiting...

Well the 1st Sultan/BT Buff Jap Bantam cross chick was born yesterday, I have it in the brooder.
Here are some pics of it, I'm not sure what color it'll be, but it has short feathered legs.

My poor Sultan/Jap Bantam was so lonely in the brooder last night it cheeped constantly. I put a little stuffed duck I got at TSC in with it and it finally went to sleep at mid-night right on top of the duck. I was hoping another chick would hatch today, but none so far...

I read up on Jap Bantams and found that the hatch mortality rate is very low. But all of ours are crosses of Sultan/Jap Bantam, and I don't quite know what the mortality hatch rate is for Sultans. I do know our Sultan hen won't even allow the Sultan roo to mate with her... Finicky female....
