I believe Cochin blood has been heavily used in the UK orps
Lets really think about this
our project birds are just babies at this point and so with that said you really cant make to many judgments about them until they are grown out alot more yet.
don't forget they are just that a project yet....
nobody has gotten any further than this project that i can see any were on the net and in the great USA..
i see pictures of black orpingtons and thats it..doesnt prove they have lavender in them..lol
However we know we didn't use ee/ameraucana blood in our lines and so we know were they are headed in the end..
blueoval1, i still love our american version of the orpington either way..they look good and lay very well...The only down side with the orps is the males combs that is alway a concern for frost bite..
What made you think there would be Cochins in UK Lavender Orps? There are plenty of black orps of excellent type available in UK & EU. Under those circs heavily using cochins to make orps wouldn't make sense......that'd more likely make lavender cochins.
They were made from just blue Leghorn (lavender) & top quality black Orpingtons.
I think you are probably right..... AFAIK nobody in US has any photos of lavender orps up on the internet.
Krys What i meant was Cochin blood being used in general in the UK orpingtons, just looking at them and Cochin's you can see it in the orps over there, at least i do.. So when they bred the lavender oprs to start the cochin blood went right along as it was in the blacks..
I love our American version too I am just a fan of big poofy birds lol. All of your orps are beautiful I hope to buy some buff orp eggs from you in the future. Thankyou for taking on this project so we can enjoy these beautiful birds here in the U.S.

British Orps are bred to British Standard for Orpingtons. And being a British breed that seems fair enough.
While many US Orpingtons do look rather different to Orpingtons in many other countries in the world, it does not necessarily follow that the rest of the world has heavily used cochin.
There were a lot of breeds used in the development of the various colours of Orp; quite often Dorkings were used. as far as I can gather it is only in the development of the buff Orpington that the use of Buff cochins is documented.
