Updated Project Lavender Orp pics - they're growing nicely

I have a feeling we'll see some of the mottling show itself again after their first moult. The shanks/legs should show some of the mottling too so you can tell them apart from your pure lavenders. I can't wait to see your results next generation. I'm sure they'll be beautiful! We're getting ready to set up our next generation mottled pen and will resume hatching on that project soon.

Here's a few more pic's of 3 of our oldest grow out pens, youngest group in the first pen all the way back to the end pen the oldest.. and still more brooders in the basement with more and more lavender orps project chicks..

Of course I'm in love with the Lavs, but I love your housing and pen set up Charlie. Wanna make a road trip with Jody to the beautiful Mts. of WV? lol

What pretty little birds. They look just like some bantam Australorps I once had back home. They were so much fun.
Not much size of course, but they made great mothers, sort of like English games.

Thanks Sandy! I'd love to take a trip to WV. Maybe we'll do that this summer and bring a pile of pullets for you. Hahaha As you can see, we're a bit overrun. lol

Maransman - I guess the pics can be deceiving on size. The front group is about 10-12 weeks old, so have a lot of growing to do yet. Here's a better pic of a 14-16 week old pullet to put it in better perspective against my 6 foot tall and 200 lb husband. Their size seems to be quite comparable to orps in general, so it looks like we're making good progress in that regard. Of course, any runty ones will be culled from the project as we continue to cull until we are satisfied with the results and continue our work towards conformation.

Here's a pic of Charlie with General as well for comparison of size:

The birds look great Jody! I do think size is hard to tell in pics. The black and lavender chicks I have from you are all a good size. I am pleased with their size because I love big chickens. I remember thinking when we saw The General that he was bigger than all my dogs.
He is huge!!
