Updates on the last pages: Neighbor is threatening me and my chickens

You can play the game too. I'm sure there's something that they do that you don't prefer; make it an issue and stick your nose in their business. Maybe their grass doesn't smell the right way, or their dog does whatever (barks, craps, stinks). If they bother you or engage you, file a complaint law enforcement for harassment.
Ask a lawyer about a slander suit for all their embellishments to whomever they talk to.
Two can play the game...............
If it has to come to that I will. For now I’m trying to play nice. At least until I’m in compliance with the current ordinance. But his dog is a huge issue. In nys dogs have to be licensed. He doesn’t have a license, or a permit, for the dog. He also lets said dog run at large in a non fenced in yard. I could cause so much hell for him but have chosen not to. I guess I’m just hoping sooner or later taking the high road will pay off and everyone will stop crapping on me.

Not sure what that means… but you mean it as a joke?
Yeah, it was a joke. Tony Soprano is a fictitious character in a TV show (Specifically a mob boss). Played by James Gandolfini. RIP.

Yeah, because 2 'wrongs' always make things 'right'.
I understand the sentiment, but will only add fuel to the fire.

Go back to the original post and title of the thread: "Neighbor is threatening me and my chickens". Threats, slander, and abuse shouldn't be tolerated by anyone. It's called fighting back and defending oneself. How is that a "wrong"??

Some folks will just take abuse; others will stand up for themselves... For one, I hope the OP fights back with all they are capable of.

Ah yes. I had heard of the tv show before. But I had never really watched it. I get it now though.

I have to figure out how to fight back bureaucratically and not play dirty like they are. But every move I make will be seen as fighting dirty or “starting something.” The mayor even advised me not to put in a complaint about his dog because it would be starting a feud with the neighbor. The mayor just wants it all to go away so he can go back to sitting on his butt.
This is all so frustrating. Maybe it’s stupid but I keep waiting for karma to be on my side. I’m not letting this jerk steam roll over me but I’m also not giving him the satisfaction of fighting with him.

Dog without a license in NY can be a problem. We have our dogs behind an invisible fence, and someone stopped to “leave a flyer” on our door when we weren’t home. They filed a complaint because our dogs ran out barking and scared the crap out of them. We were in no trouble once my DH proved both were licensed & had rabies shots. Then he asked who it was and said he wanted to file a counter complaint for trespassing since they had no business being there when we weren’t home, and said the dogs are our alarm system to keep trespassers away, and it magically all went away. Maybe someone you know could walk by/near his house and file a complaint about being afraid of a loose dog...it won’t come from you and will take care of the dog. Biggest thing here is you have to have a rabies shot on file. It’s only like $15 to register a dog plus proof of shots.

If I were you, I'd seek the advice of legal counsel. If what you say is, in fact, true, you are not in the wrong here, but you are OUTNUMBERED (mayor - likely extends to the police, board, neighbor with cousin on the board). If the law is on your side, make it work for YOU. That means you don't let folks run over you. Good luck!

PS: don't "fight" with him per se; outmaneuver him...
