I have a rooster who has had Respiratory issues for the last two weeks and had been crowing weirdly beforehand and I wasn't sure why but probably should have caught it sooner... anyways ... I treated him with the antibiotics But not sure if the dose was enough. It was left over from our last hen who died right after seeing our avian vet. But he is An an hour and a half away and for some chickens its just to stressful of a trip so they have passed away... like the last hen. So this rooster I am afraid to take. Anyways

He isn't open mouth breathing all the time. He will close his beak and then ever so often open for a breath then close and reopen... he also has lost weight ore recently. He was top rooster and now he isn't ... he still seems to be eating but loosing weight still ... so I started with eggs and meal worms to help combat his weight loss ... his comb isn't as bright red as it should be ... anyways I will post a pic or video tomorrow If i can but was wanting to start his meds ...

So I purchased Tylan 50 and panacur goat wormer to give him. At 1/2 cc tylan for 7-10 days and 2ccs goat worm a day for 5 days for gapeworm just in case ...

Can I give these at the same time or is the fear of interaction with the 2 medications. ?

And I have never seen gapeworm ... is there a length of time they would have it before it could kill him ?

Thanks everyone If u need anymore info pls let me know

I can't help much with gapeworm as I have no experience with it. 1/2 a cc of tylan is not enough unless he's a very small bird. Proper tylan 50 dosage is .2cc per pound 3X's a day.

I got the wrong one I meant to get the Tylan 200 :( ... now I have to go back to the store ... the 1/2cc is for the Tylan 200 right ? Once a day ...? Thanks for replying

Tylan 200 would be .05cc per pound 3X's a day. So .5 cc would dose a 10lb bird.

I haven't been able to look for tapeworm info yet. Been trying to feed the flock here. @casportpony any info on gapeworm?

Everyone else was saying once a day orally ... I haven't heard anywhere else 3x a day ... now I'm confused ... Do u mean once a day for 3 days or 3x a day ? Thank s just making sure ... cause three times a day would be a lot ! Lol

3 times a day. This is directly from several well know poultry vets. Once a day is not enough. The dosage I gave is for injections. Tylan does not show good absorption rates when given orally.

@minihorse927 is correct, it should be given no less than twice a day, but injection site necrosis can be a problem. The one time I used it the chicken did get injection site necrosis.

CRD indications:

  • Administer medicated drinking water for three days; however, medicated water may be administered for one to five days depending upon severity of infection. Treated chickens must consume enough medicated water to provide 50 mg per pound of body weight per day. Only medicated water should be available to the birds.
Turkeys:

  • Administer medicated drinking water for three days; however, medicated water may be administered for two to five days depending upon severity of infection. Treated turkeys must consume enough medicated water to provide 60 mg per pound of body weight per day. Only medicated water should be available to the birds.

Best dose for gapes is Safeguard at 0.23 ml per pound orally for five consecutive days.
