UPS broke my Dickey Hatcher. Dial up warning FINAL UPDATE pg 11

Just what I paid for it. $275 not counting shipping.

It was packed in a thick cardboard box which had been cut to fit the size of the incubator. The trays and other inside parts were taped together inside it and then taped to the inside of the hatcher.

The seller had used a few rolls of heavy duty tape all over the box and the outside of the box had caution tape all over it saying it was a heavy item.

I hope UPS makes good on it. I had to save like crazy to get a used one.

Sharon, i do hope you get reimbursed! that is just horrible. keep us posted on what happens.

I'm so sorry - like any of us can afford to suck up and eat the loss. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you - UPS is generally good to work with but they aren't known for kid glove handling - I swear they drop kick everything from their truck to your porch!

That makes me worry. I have a new incubator coming from Mr. Dickey. I hope it survives. By the way he is a very nice guy. I highly recommend buying from him. Great customer service.

ups told me that it was required that an item be packed with 2" of packing peanuts on all sides..

your tight fitting box does not fill the bill..

be prepared to go back after the seller for your refund..

the grease can be cleaned up and the hinges replaced.. probably the whole thing can be repaired by someone who is handy.. you might have to settle for cost of repairs..

I have never seen a package like that from ups..

OH MY STARS! What a heartbreak

I hope you get a different one!!!
I'm gonna begin saving for a Dickey when I get school done- It'll be my graduation present to myself

If you used PayPal to pay for it you can get your shipping cost back in addition to the item cost with their buyer protection. You'd have to file a dispute and provide them with the photos. It's a bit of a process, but worth it.

Be sure to keep every single piece of packing material that it came in, including the tape. Hopefully there was something inside to cushion it from the blows it received? If not, the seller should be held responsible for not packing it properly.

That is what happened to me. I shipped some glass pieces that I had carefully wrapped in bubble wrap, etc. Well, some pieces still got broken. The UPS people said my packaging was not sufficient and refused to pay the claim. I immediately refunded the buyer (on ebay) everything, including shipping charges, because it wasn't her fault that UPS handles their packages the way they do. It turned into an expensive lesson for me, but now I know that if I'm going to ship something fragile with UPS, it pays for them to pack it.
