I am crushed. It was only 1 of 3 birds in 3 years I have brought into my "home" that I did not hatch out myself..... I did all I could. Vet-RX....vitamins and TLC plus good healthy mash. He wasn't good from the start. His brother seems chipper as all get out.
Turns out I got 2 roos as well rather than 2 hens you had predicted.:<( Now I can't even keep the one. it doesn't look at all like the pullet I hatched out which isn't even 2 weeks older than this one. His comb is very distinguished.
He is missing his buddy......very sad.

No more additions for me, just eggs I hatch out myself. Lesson learned.................

Oh No! I feel like I knew him, cause I had him for two days. I also put Nutri-drench in the water and made sure they were never cold. They certainly looked ok when you picked them up. Days like this I wonder why we do this to ourselves, chickens can drop dead so easily!

I would have sworn they were girls - when you saw them next to the others, the ones left had very obvious combs and the ones we picked had nothing!

Oh not for you to feel bad about. You did them good.:<))
The one who wasn't "perky" and kinda quiet just went downhill from there. 1/2 closed eyes and very sedate. The one who was "active/flighty" is definately healthy and a roo or sure. I've raised MF d Uccles from hatch to adult bfore and know what a roo looks like early on.LOL

You did me a favor bringing them down from upstate....and I am very appreciative of that.:<)
No reflection other than no more chickens comming in that I haven't hatched out on my own. I never lost one of this age & it was a sad thing.

I asked for it........I got it.:<)

I don't suppose they have fish there? Veggie here. I may have to pass. But don't change the venue if that's where you want to eat - I know how it is. I'll either eat before or after, and hang with you.

Wow - three in a row. I have no life. But I do have a problem, which I have posted on the injuries board.

One of the orp pullets I brought home from Nat came up lame - I noticed it Wednesday eve. She may have had it before, but she was always standing, and they were a little crowded even in my biggest Fausto-sized cage. I assumed perhaps she banged it while in transit to here. She is now in my room alone, barely eating. I have given her a squirt in the mouth of Nutri-drench yesterday and today. She barely touched a scrambled egg. She is sitting a lot.

Here's the weird part -one of my oldest hens, a 5 yr-old LW, came up lame the same day! I can only think she may have landed on it wrong when she jumped off the nest box, which is about two feet high. The coop and run are clean of debris. She seems to be eating all right, and hobbles around gingerly. Both can put a little weight on the bad foot, but each can barely walk. The hen would lose her mind if I took her out of the coop, and since she's eating, I'm leaving her.

Both girls have clean feet - no marks of any injuries. No symptoms of anything else. People have suggested Marek's but they don't have the symptoms. So, assuming that they are both sprains, or something similar, what are your suggestions?

Thanks guys!

One of myps orps!!!! OMG those girls were so huge and healthy-sweetest girls too. Lame like hurt leg???? Like what ?? They were my free ranging crew-all three of them never apart ate like piggies loved scrambeled eggs-have you tried that with her...Man that breaks my heart as I almost didnt sell them because they all had grown into such beautiful girls and just so sweet and fluffy!!!

mareks??? They never showed any signs of that-none of my birds ever showed signs of that--now Im getting freaked out:-( Im sorry Mary I even had people in the pens looking at all the birds and said how healthy they looked...When I put them in that cage I checked each one over to make sure there wasnt any signs of fights-trauma-etc...they were all good...shes probably lonely away from her sisters---seriously..when I had seperated them into that pen one was ellusive and screamed for her sisters so bad when I finally got her ( at night) I put her in in the kennel with them and they all started their ritual of purring and cuddling with eachother-

I wouldn't jump to a mereks conclusion. so many other reasons that it could be. Like Mary said..... even coming down hard on her feet could be it. Wish they could talk right? Make life a whole lot easier.
