*URGENT*! Baby Bird eggs Found! *IT HATCHED!!!*

There are two types of baby birds, altricial and precocial types. Chickens are precocial types that we can easily raise. Altricial types are like yours, parakeets, parrots, finches and such. They are MUCH harder to deal with. Ideally, a wildlife rescue would have been best to have lined up right after it hatched. They need to be fed almost right away till their crops are full and kept warm with a pretty high humidity.

Some hand feeding information:

These were my 1-6 day old parakeet chicks. Mom feed them around the clock on their backs.

They are now 8-13 days old in this pic and still cannot raise their heads and mom and dad feed them all day long.

There really wasn't anything you could do if a place wasn't already lined up to take them.

haha im kinda surprised no one has really got after you about taking the eggs haha.
my little brother brought me 2 killdeer eggs and they were still alive so i put them in the bator.
put a thread up a bout it... no one will help... just yell at me haha

, but I actually didn't take the eggs. A friend did after thinking

they fell out of the tree her dad cut down. Turns out the eggs were laid in a tarp,

and the mom MAY have came back. I do feel like a killer, but everything happens

for a reason. Silkiechicken, that is honastly the prettiest parakeet I've ever seen.

She's gorgeous! She looks like a good mom to

Thankyou all for the nice posts.

I guess next time, tell the friend to leave them were they are until I actually see

the situation, and confirm whether or not the mom will come back, because if this

nest was were it was found, this guy most likely would have made it.

I wouldn't fret too much, if mom didn't actually hatch those eggs out, she probably started a new nest and has a new clutch somewhere in the trees. Your little guy probably has siblings in the making out there.

I'm glad my girl parakeet is somewhat hand tamed. She'll come when she feels like it, but her semi-trust lets me check on the chicks without fear of her abandoning them or trying to pick my eyes out.

Might be just me but baby birds (non chickens) are the ugliest babies I have ever seen. Then when their "feathers" start to come in they look even uglier. But when they have all their feathers and are full grown they look really good.

SilkieChicken, do you ever hand feed the babies? I was wanting to

breed my hahns, and raise hand fed babies, but after this I really don't

want to

Can you please reread my post? I have raised baby songbirds successfully using this method. If the other eggs hatch, you really want to follow this advice. You can even keep the baby in the incubator, but make a small nest to put it in.

Ok, I found some photos of the last babies I raised. They are still in the incubator in this photo, and I kept them in there for the first week. After that, once the eyes opened and they began sprouting feathers, I moved them into a small box with a heating pad, and I kept a watchful eye on the temperature.

Feed them some parrot handfeeding formula. Warm and thin, but not too watery. Use the flat end of a wooden toothpick, or the end of a pen cap. Feed a few times per hour, from morning till dark.
