There is a soft, red thing protruding from either my chick's vent or navel. My chick hatched just hours ago, and the umbilical cord was stuck to the chick and egg, and just as I thought I should cut it off, the chick pulled it... hard... and it came off. But now there's a red blob and I'm worried. Is there some possibility of it being the chick's intestines? Hopefully you can see.

How is your baby?

If you can post more photos we may be able to tell if it's intestines, unabsorbed yolk sac, etc.
The color makes me think intestines, but I could be wrong. You can put the chick in a shallow cup to help immobolize it while she absorbs everything.

If it's intestines, then likely the chick won't make it, but @granny hatchet or @Pyxis may have some tips. If it were mine I would give it a few hours more and keep the protrusion moist with some Bacitracin or Plain Neosporin.

I cant see it well enough but by the description I would guess intestines. Better pictures maybe.
The vent is right under the tail bump. the umbilical is closer to the belly under the chick and where the cord would of been attached.
If intestines I would cull but lets make sure first.
Thanks Wyorp
