Urgent: Chicken coughing - asthma?

Don’t just take her to any vet- if you are in the US, I highly suggest that you call your state veterinarian as they can help you more than a parrot vet. Parrot vets know NOTHING about poultry and their diseases, all they do is guess, you need to contact your state and talk to a poultry disease specialist veterinarian.

I am glad that your chicken is doing better after the Cipro treatment. Cipro would treat mycoplasma (MG) symptoms, if that were the case. It is very hard to diagnose wheezing and sneezing without other symptoms, and testing. But it is good that she is better. If you should ever lose a bird, the state vet can do testing along with a necropsy to confirm a diagnosis. Here is a link to read about MG:

Ok will try that in the morning. I let her out of her cage in the house this afternoon for a few hours and she acted fine other than the occasional cough. I am reading up on aspergillosis too and they recommend looking there in the trachea and mouth as well. The vets around here know little to nothing about chicken medicine. I had some vets from the State University vet school in Raleigh here a few months back but she was fine then - go figure. They ran some blood tests on the birds and found my flock to be very healthy and happy with no issues. I thank you for your help!! Hopefully she will get better soon and I can figure this out.
Hi, I wondered if you found out what this was. I too have one hen out of a flock of 7 who does this. She has been doing it for over a month a various levels of wheezing. Some days are better than others and other than wheezing she is fine. I have treated her for gapeworm but see little improvement. Strangely the hay fever system is pretty bad at the moment and I wondered if it was some sort or allergy. Our local vets aren’t great with chickens so not sure of the benefit of going there. All other hens are fine. It would be great to hear if you found a solution. Thanks!

Thank you. All our veterinarians are closed on Sundays and we don’t have any competent poultry vets around here. That is why I got her started on Cipro. If she doesn’t respond to that, I will look into an antifungal medication I suppose. I wish I could upload the video...
And have a faverolle doing the exact same thing. I have done a 10 course of LA200 antibiotics and it seemed better for a few days but now it started up again. I started another round of antibiotics but I don’t know what else to try. She has no ocular discharge, she is eating & drinking fine. No other hens are sick, no mites/lice. Her comb does seem to be darker than normal which makes me wonder if this is cardiac related in some way. Did you ever figure out the cause your chickens illness?
