URGENT! Duck was attacked, now lethargic!

Thanks so much. I just went out and bought some cuticle scissors, some bag balm and and some oregano oil so I'm going to go out and treat both my ducks just to be sure. I'll keep you all updated on Strut's progress. Jem seems okay to me but I'm still going to treat her as well.
Again, thank you all so much for your advice and kind words. :)

Okay, update time!

I checked them both over for other injuries and I didn't find any. I then gave them both some diluted oregano oil by mouth. I irrigated the wounds as best I could with the saline wash Amiga shared with me and put the balm on them.
From what I can tell, Strut didn't have any broken skin but his neck where the bite was felt very hard, like there was a lump or something. My theory is that it's just inflamed from the attack.
Anyways, they were none too happy about being treated but aside from being a little disgruntled, I think they'll be okay for now.
Behavior wise, Jem is normal and Strut seems to have improved a bit.
Will keep everyone updated on improvements or declines.

Thanks for the update! Just keep an eye out for infection. If you see lots of redness, heat and inflammation at the wound sites, these are signs of infection.

Take care of your babies and keep us posted! I hope they make a full recovery. :-)

Welcome to BYC!

We're glad to have you.

Sorry to hear about your duck! I'm glad to hear that he's a little bit better.

I feel you are handling this well, going to share a caution I receive from others here, to be careful that anything you give by mouth goes down the correct way

Some dribble liquids inside the mouth so the duck can swallow - others know more about the proper side to go in on, etc.

Just trying to prevent additional difficulties.

And thank you very much for the update.

Well, my ducks seem to be okay. My only concern is that Strut seems to have an odd crook in his neck. Almost like a sideways bend. It's especially noticeable from behind. I think it might be because of swollen muscle or tissue but the neck in that area feels almost like a knot. That's the best way I can describe it.
On the bright side, he's drinking and preening and he's flapping his wings and waggling his tail. So I guess he's feeling better than before, assuming wing flaps and tail wags are the behavior of a happy duck.

More updates to come tomorrow. I'm feeling hopeful. :D

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm a chicken person and don't know much about ducks (although I've had a few), but I would definitely pick the brains of our experts on our duck section. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. I hope your duck recovers.

Hello all! Strut seems to be walking happier this morning. I had some more diluted oregano oil for him and he resisted more than he did yesterday as well as when I put more balm on his neck. Jem actually started nipping me as I treated Strut. I guess they're going to be okay. -^.^-
