As much as I hate scratching a bird, you might need to consider the responsibility as an owner.

Would it be better to keep your bird at home and let him regain his strength completely, or possibly stress him out enough that it's the "last straw" and he not regain his health.

Hmmm....if he was sick last month I would consider leaving him at home. The extra stress of a show might cause him to relapse or worse. If he is that underweight the judge will also notice and it may not reflect well on you as the exhibitor. If he hasn't gained much by the time of the show I would leave him home and wait for the next show.

Please don't give me attitude, not saying that you are, but that's just how I'm reading it. I'm stressed, and I made a typing error. Have some sympathy please.

I was not having an attitude, quite the opposite. I was simply trying to inform you of the date, I've gotten the date screwed up several times and it happens to everyone. No need to get defensive.

If the bird is not starving and is healthy, you don't have to worry too much. The judge won't put it on a scale, they go by what feels right. Cracked corn, safflower, and sunflower seeds are high in fat. Just be sure that the bird does not get fat as this would be hazardous to its health. That being said, I have to agree with what others have said, you should get the bird healthy before bringing it to a show. Showing is stressful on birds and he may not be able to recover.

Black Oil Sunflower seeds. It always worked on my horses. Now I feed them to my chickens and it gives them nice shiny feathers.
