urgent help needed please -pic added

So sorry... Its so hard to take care of so many at one time. It seems that when it rains, it pours, huh?

Hoping for a miracle.

it is done, she was sitting here, making hard breathing noises, eyes closed, and seemed like she was in a lot of pain. This is the first hen we have culled, I feel horrible.
shoulda, woulda, coulda....doesn't matter, at least she is not suffering. thanks for trying
If I wanted to drain I wouldn't have known where to even start if I could have gotten the supplies and I feel it would have been cruel to make her stay like this till tomorrow, so we did what we felt was humane

That looks like she was laying internally. There is nothing you could have done for her. I bet if you open her up you will find huge masses of yolk.

You did what was best for her in the end.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Maybe to help others if this happens and for your own piece of mind, did you open her to see what is was? I know that sounds gross but it could help others and maybe you the next time.

no, I did not open her. I know there may have been something to learn but if I was wrong I would feel worse, not to mention I already feel bad I didn't get a better look at it yesterday. My ameraucana never had this issue(except one that had a swollen vent from being picked on by a cali white). Maybe that's what I get for getting a hatchery bird....just wanted a couple of turkens for my laying flock...now I only have one

Family comes first so don't worry about it. I hope the children are all feeling better today. I'm sure you did the best you could. Sometimes us woman do the jobs of 3 men.

If I had some eggs I would send them to you.

PLease don't beat yourself up!!! Stuff happens. You can't always be there!! You were being a good Mommie and that is even more important. That picture looks awful. I am absolutely no expert and i have never dealt with anything like that but I have to wonder if it isn't an abscess of some kind to swell so quickly. I am not sure there is anything you could have done even if you found her right away!!! I am very sorry if you did have to cull her, but she does look in pain! I am dealing with an injured bird too(fox bite) and trying to decide if I should give him a chance to heal or put him out of his misery... I truly understand. Good luck! Hope you children are feeling better and you stay healthy!!!!
