urgent help needed

Yep...

rest the duck, keep her away from others to reduce the stress and urge to get up and roam, feed her well with fresh greens, good feed with some oyester shell mixed in for calcium to aid in healing a broken/damaged bone. Add vitemins to water of feed and supply additional warmth if its cold or chilly.

Ducks make amazing recoverys from orthopaedic type injuries. I've seen a duck that was totally lame, unable to place a foot on the ground, sleep on it and be walking around near normally the next day. Many times they just need rest and quiet. They stress very easily and that delays healing.

I 2nd the turtle warnings. I've seen a small pond turtle make a pass at a duckling. Neighbors said that they witnessed a 3-4" turtle grab a duckling in the pond as the duckling was swimming and take it under never to be seen again......much like a 'gator takes its prey. But, if you have no turtles them thats not the problem. There is no tellin how it happened...plenty of other possible ways for a duck to become injured.

I hope that she heals quickly and returns to her flock soon,
Good luck

I've witnessed a turtle take a duck as well. Luckily I heard the commotion, and jumped in the pond in a true "crazy girl rescuing her duck" fashion. :)

congrats to you quackerjackfarms for saving the duck

Keep us updated..

Yes, please keep the updates coming in so we can be of some help...

I know that my big drake has a leg/foot that twitches sometimes. I saw him holding it up with the leg twitching and got very alarmed at that. When I stepped into the pen to take a closer look he put it down and ran....I've seen him hold that foot up since but it never stops him from running or anything else. I have no clue if its a nervous condition or some injury...They DO favor sleeping and standing for long periods on one leg for some reason. I see mine asleep on one leg with the head turned backwards everyday. Sure looks uncomfortable..! Then again, I don;t have 17 vertebre in my neck...

i went up and checked on her after school and i think she is doing worse

she is moveing her injured foot a little but the foot that she was useing she is not moving at all and she will not walk at all. i let her out while i cleaned out her cage and she pushed her self along the floor with her wings made me want to cry

could she have hurt her good foot buy only useing the one foot or what? i have a big metal dog water bowl and i put her in it and all she did was take a couple drinks and sit there did not try to bathe of paddle around. i talked to my grandma and her 80 year old neibor had a litter trained house malard drake for 22 years and she said that the duck (squaky) broke its hip and they did a surgery but it was $2,000

. i love my duck

but i would never be able afford that

any advice for me that i could try ?

I'd let her rest awhile in a porta kennel in the house, give her a warm tub once a day to swim in and apply VetRX to the leg/thigh as a liniment...this has worked well for a few Calls I've had that have strained/sprained/torn something in their legs. You'd never know now that they ever had anything wrong. The warm tub for about half an hour seems to really help.

I have Vet RX really like it alot and resonable in price also at TSC I bought a small plastic jar of DMSO for a rub on leg injuries, I use DMSO for myself for Fibromyalgia and it works great so i bought some for my ducks in case they have an injury, I have a big Muscovy drake that has been limping for a few months and am going to start rubbing his legs every eve. when I put him to bed and see if it will help. I hope you can find something that will help your girl. and it could just be she needs some bed rest for a week or so.

right now i have her in my bigest dog crate in the coop cause my parents are not fond of my animals and i am not allowed to have any power in my coop so i just put a lot of new hay in her crate every day

it sucks when my mom and stepdad dont like my animals

Oh, I hope your duck starts getting better soon!
(And I loved your pictures on the "geese in snow" page- what a wonderful place they have, with that pond to play in!)
I've only had my ducks and geese since last summer, and thankfully, no injuries yet. But I keep a bookmark on Dave Holderread's "Injuries" page, which ends: "Ducks have an amazing ability to heal, even from injuries that appear to be catastrophic." Such reassuring words!
Good luck, and please keep us posted-
