Hi everyone,

my hen is about 3 years old and about 4 days agostarted acting very slow and now is not moving much at alll. I brought her inside last night to watchher and she is still eating and drinking, she did a few little poo’s I’ll attach the photo they seem normal colour however there’s only a 2 which seems unusual as they usually poo a lot at night. She is also not laying any eggs.

so I’ve ruled out a sour crop as in the morning her crop is reduced in size and she is still eating and pooing also I have checked for mites on her bum there is none.any help will be massively appreciated as I am totally confused

thank you

From what I can see in your photo, the poops appear normal. If you rule out a crop disorder, it may be a bacterial infection.

Do you have a compost pile? Are there areas where it hasn't been aerated? How about moldy and rotten material?

What is your location? This is important. Please fill out your profile. Location tells is a lot without having to ask a lot of questions.

I do not have a compost pile and all they eat is layer pellets and are occasionally allowed out in the garden but I can’t think of anything in the garden she could of eaten that was bad. They all live in a fully enclosed run. I’ll attach photos. Thanks for your help

You aren't going to get a specific diagnosis here. It's just not possible. All we can do is try to rule things out given the information you've provided, and take a guess at what might be left that match the symptoms.

Have you examined your hen carefully? Look into her ears and mouth and throat. Have someone help you pry open her beak and take a good look with the flashlight. Look for swelling and crusty or waxy plaque in the mouth or ears.

Feel her abdomen just behind the legs. Is it swollen? Is she able to stand without falling over?

ive just looked at her her abdomen is the same as the others and her ears and nose is normal her throat seems okay but I have her some yoghurt and so that’s why I think the back of her throat has a thin white coat on it she can walk about okay she just doesn’t walk much but as I went down she was drinking so could she just have a virus or something like that? Thanks for helping

She could have a virus. Those aren't treatable. Secondary infections are treatable with an antibiotic.

It's possible your hen has a simple bacterial infection and an antibiotic may be a good idea. It's what I resort to with a sick hen when I've ruled out everything else. You can generally find Fish Mox (amoxicillin) on line.

What is the dosage on that just for reference
