I have to agree with this. Seems you don't have much of an option, but he loves and trusts you. Chickens hate change, it will be even harder for him.I am afraid with all he has gone through as it is... He may get depressed.
If he's in the house and you don't mind the crowing, then you neighbors probably wont be hear the crowing from their house. You may get lucky, talk to the neighbors before you find him a new home.
I agree with Weeg. If he is in the house, it shouldn't be an issue but talk to the neighbors, and tell them your story
Well best of luck to you both. I am in Maine, or I would take him. Do keep us posted though. Be well.Thank you for the advice. I really want to but I simply can't. It's very very complicated. My primary residence is in Manhattan. I've been working from different parts of the U.S. during the pandemic because my work can be done remotely. But I do have to go back in September when my work building reopens. I rescued him while in Hawaii and I had been working on nursing him back to health, drafting import documents with the vet, and arranging flights to bring him back to mainland by early August.
My apartment in NYC is a 1 bedroom apartment on the 40th floor, with doormen that watch for unapproved guests and animals. I have to register pets and get it approved by management even before bringing it in. Then I have to get it approved by my landlord (I have already done this). Chicken is already an exotic and I had to jump through so many hoops just to get a hen approved. Keeping a rooster would be impossible.
I really appreciate the comments everyone has written. I like to stay optimistic but I feel so heartbroken and hopeless. We will figure it out though. I'll keep the thread updated on future progress.

You can research "no crow collars" and come to your own conclusion if that is a feasible option for you.I rescued a dying chick that was sexed as a pullet in this forum some weeks ago... Today she started crowing...
Is she a he...? I am so heartbroken as I cannot keep roos...
