Urgent! Peachick cat attack

Do you know how bad that stuff burns? ouchey, I would only use it in an emergency like if the eye is punctured cause you can kill the good bacteria as well... Just sayen

none of my animals have ever grimaced in pain from it and it would help prevent infection, just saying...

I am with birdeo bit would use a triple antibiotic. If the eye is gone, it will prevent secondary infection. If the eye is just damaged or scratched it will prevent secondary infection. If there is nothing wrong, well then it will prevent infection and cause blurry vision for the day. You getting the picture?

You could also use some water or saline solution in a mister bottle to flush the eye. We warm it first. IF there is an issue with the eye, you will be surprised how well they tolerate the spray.

as a rule 3x antibiotic ointment is not ophthalmic safe but the saline solution is a great "eye" dea and a lot "cheeper" for sure !

Triple antibiotic is used in cats, dogs, horses and hundreds of other animals eyes everyday. You can buy it as an "opthalmic" version which is no different than any other version.
Understand but when using 3x anti b one must be sure to use the ophthalmic version ( as you stated above ) which seemingly does differ from the versions that are easily/readily obtained for skin abrasions and so forth.
That's the reason I stated the 3x ointment .. as a rule... is not safe for the eyes because what most people can get at the drug store is not considered safe for eye use.

Not trying to argue with you , just want to make it clear to anyone who may want to use 3x anti b ointment to make sure it is
cleared for ophthalmic use is all.

His lower lid is sort of swollen and its all very wet and inverted still, i'm afraid I only have a really bad picture of him as i haven't had the chance to find my other camera. By tomorrow ill go do that but for now heres this:
around the eye is a little rusty, i treied washing it but he wont keep still...

NO. That is not what you want. You want saline solution for the eyes. The stuff you use with contacts. If you can't get that just use warm water and neosporin or a generic triple antibiotic. Again, unless you buy a triple antibiotic that has a pain reliever or other additive it is safe for the eye.

The eye does not look that bad from the picture. Their eyes, membranes and lids are fairly resilient. It is pretty common for the edge of the membrane to become irritated and inflamed.

You are going to get a firm grasp on it to do anything. Just make sure the pressure is on the skull, beak and neck and not the throat.

When we have a hundred or so chicks around here like now, you are going to get scratched and irritated eyes even though ours are on wire for a long time before they hit the ground. I really only worry when I see the membrane closed or the bird continually rubbing the eye on the back. Otherwise unless there is an obvious nick or scratch on the eye itself we just mark the bird with a zip tie and watch it.
