Urgent respiratory wheezing-help with Tylan injection please

A quick note about Tylan Injections:
"Tylan-50 Injectable" is an antibiotic designed for intramuscular injection. IM injections are given in a large muscle; in chickens, this is the breast muscle. Take care to avoid the crop. Giving the injection in the neck can be ineffective, and potentially dangerous.
Though Tylan is indicated for Cattle and Swine, it is very effective in treating bacterial upper respiratory infections in chickens.

1/2cc of Tylan-50 is sufficient for mild to moderate infections. Tylan should be injected daily for 3-5 days. Like any antibiotic, finish the entire course of treatment- so a minimum of 3 injections. Stopping treatment early can promote antibiotic resistant bacteria.

If you have a pet that is sick, the best course of action is ALWAYS to take your animal, be it a dog, cat, or chicken, to a veterinarian (DVM)

The afn.org link on the other related thread is over 10 years old, and does not represent current veterinarian recommended practice, to our knowledge.

Dosage should ALWAYS be calculated to the weight of the bird > see the link I posted.
@trunorth > please post a more current veterinary dosage link since you say the info is outdated.

Beware, injecting tylan into the breast muscle, will destroy the muscle. On large cattle its a small area, but with the small muscle of peafowl or chicken, the area damage is the same , which is most of the breast.

I have injected it only in the case the birds was near death, other wise give it oral. never had to give more than 2 treatment most cases one will do.

You will find most top peafowl breeder use it this way. Remember it is for cattle. If you read the warning it will tell you not to inject in the same area of the cattle muscle, because it can damage the muscle.

1/2 cc for full grown chicken, or 4 month old peafowl.

This has always work for me, check under the peafowl section on this forum. You will see this info has been post there before.

The information I shared above is not from a website. It came directly from my vet. While the Internet is very useful. talking to a DVM beats the best website.

It's as simple as this: Tylan-50 Injectable is designed for IM use, be it for cattle, swine, or chickens.

The directions on the bottle and the directions insert in the box read:
"ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE: Tylan 50 Injection is administered intramuscularly."

Before using a product, read the manufacturer's instructions.

Quote:
If you want to follow the instruction of the manufacturer. IT says " FOR USE IN CATTLE AND SWINE ONLY"
Also says do not use on pigs less than 6 1/2 lbs.(chickens weight less)
No where does it says to inject into anybird...
Says DONOT use with horses ,because it has been fatal to horses....
Not all Vets have knowledge of birds.....

I know what works for me,with my birds. Also have seen the damage to the breast muscle.

I agree what deerman said. I too use it orally on my chickens. No need to inject it with the needle. So you guys use tylan 50, I use tylan 200. Drop 1cc into its mouth. From my past experience to now, this is all I need to do.

And yes, I use tylan on chickens with bad eye problem too. Just use it like a eye drop.
