URGENT: Sick male duck

Your doing a great job with him. If you do take him to the beach watch for stray or lose dogs. And if he picks at the sand it won’t hurt him you just don’t want him swallowing a lot of it.
Thanks:love I will do so. I just have a question. I found some grit here but it is for pigeons with extra calcium (oyster shells), and I know oyster shells are for laying ducks only. Will it harm to give him grits with extra calcium?

I will start doing that. Thank you for your advice:love
Regarding his neck, do is there anything I can do for him about it? Or I just leave him recover it alone ?
Thanks again. Much appreciated :hugs

To clarify, the range in which his neck moves is only limited to a certain side, correct? And, how long has this been going on, if you know.

Supplemental calcium is not needed in males, and if given for a long period of time could potentially lead to conditions like gout, or kidney problems. It would be best to find a grit with no calcium.

Correct. It has been for a little less than a month

I will do my best to find him one. Thank you

Thanks for the reply!
Yes, Kuwait is indeed not a good place to be an animal in. A fun fact: Kuwait is the hottest spot on earth (you may google it). The temperature now is 30°C (that’s why even if I had a backyard, my duck would die from heat in summer)
It’s such a challenging story (our duck every day in Kuwait) but if you’d like I can keep you updates when I take him out for the first time ;)
Kuwait is so small, so everywhere is accessible by car at most 1 hour. As for al-shaheed park, I am afraid they wouldn’t let him in. As for al-jahra pools, it’s a natural reserve for extinct animals, so they wouldn’t let him in. I suggested the beach because it’s the only place where if I take him nobody will ban it or hurt him. If I take him to the beach, do I allow him to pick sand with his mouth?
I give him a bath & a shower everyday (at the end of the bath I open the shower). The bath is deep enough for him to float (and he likes it)
I have cat dry food (I had a cat and they were best friends then we had to euthanise it). When the cat was alive, I would let him eat some as a treat, but I was worried from the amount of additives in it. As for chickpeas, they are everywhere! I didn’t know it was good for him. I’ll definitely give him along peas.

regarding your curious question: yes, Kuwait is nearly as open as the UAE, you would find both types of people: the very conservative who don’t allow women (they’re a good portion of the society) and the liberals (half the Kuwaitis and the non-Kuwaitis which is like 3/4 of the population) I am not Kuwaiti so I am so free. As for the general public, women generally are so free in the clothing/driving/travelling. It’s nothing like SA. Maybe if you go now to SA, you’ll find it changed because of the new laws. :D
I knew Kuwait is hot, didn't know it is the hottest point on Earth though.
Colleagues told me that their backyards (?) - more like back-deserts, just sand with an above ground-pool and a trampoline - have reached 50° during the summer in 2003. They told me »we parked the cars in the front-yard instead of at the street, just to save a few steps from the car to the house, literally jumping form one AC-cooled space to the next AC-cooled space…«

I would just ask if you can bring your »emotional support« animal with you to al-shaheed park, for sure sure nobody would object you in all seriousness. Do people bring their dogs to the park? If yes, why should they ban a duck? - But you would have to have an eye on your drake and make sure to protect him from the dogs.
Same applies, of course on the beach, and yes, sand is ok, if he doesn't try to gobble up the whole beach! 😉

And yes, I'm sure everybody here would love to hear updates from him and you! We all love duck stories and yours's is very special!

Still hearing bad things from SA, from colleagues, though women are now allowed to drive they are often harassed by fanatics. Western people are always watched with great suspicion and those cheap guest-workers from developing countries are still treated worse than the camels… - Not a country for me!

I will start doing that. Thank you for your advice:love

Unfortunately i have no idea what is actually wrong with his neck. It could be a nerve issue, B-vitamins may help with that, it could also be something with his muscles, i saw him trembling when he tried to move his head to the left. For the muscles protein (cat-food) and minerals may help. But most likely something is wrong with his vertebras and only a vet with an x-ray would be able to figure out if that can be fixed. Are the Kuwaitis into Falcon hunting, like the people in the UAE? If yes, there should be some excellent avian vet's available. But they will likely charge you an arm and a leg…
If they sell OTC vitamin b-complex pills, similar to these:

You could crush one a day and mix it with some peas or some cat-food and give it to him. That's what i did with all the ducklings i have raised. You cannot overdose B-Vitamins, the excess will just be peed out.

Oh 2003, good old cold days 😜 now it reaches up to 60°C. Your colleagues are spot on, when we drive it’s like we are in an oven.

Regarding al-shaheed park, I think they would allow him, but I am not entirely sure. I will pass and check. As for dogs, they are everywhere so yes, thanks for the reminder. I’ll keep a close eye on him.

You are such sweet people:love My duck sends you greetings!

SA will need time to recover the past period, but it’s not the best place, I agree, and I wouldn’t go there just yet, not even in 100 years. Foreigners indeed are looked down upon, and unfortunately, the labour from developing countries are even humiliated here. So sad to see that happen, but it’s very common.

thanks for your response. The two most prestigious animal hospitals here (with x-rays and stuff) don’t cure except cats and dogs. Here, they are not that much into falcons, but they love pigeons and make races nationwide with big prizes. I would assume there are avian vets, but they must be super expensive. Also, based on my experience with vets, they are super cheaters. They are inhuman and they are super greedy. I paid on my cat a load and at the end they harmed his urethra so bad he stopped eating and bled hard I had to either euthanise him or make him a surgery (that was avoidable had they not been so greedy and careless) that would most probably fail from their ill care for animals. Sorry for venting but I really hate vets.
Regarding the B vitamins, I gave him when he was young (before knowing there was nutritional yeast here) B complex and he almost died. I linked it to the B complex but it obviously was more of an upper respiratory infection
The only reason he made it was because of peas and yogurt. Nothing helped other than them. Is the nutritional yeast not a sufficient source of B vitamins? I still have the B-complex pills and I can crush it for him. Do you recommend I switch him to it?

Nutritional yeast is a very good source of B vitamins. It's rec for water fowl the B complex if they have leg issues develop when young. It usually brings them out of it faster. I use NY for all my water fowl even now that they are all adults. I just sprinkle it over their feed they eat it right up.

Thank you! I shall keep giving him :love
