URGENT~ SOFT SHELLED EGGS AND A LETHARGIC DUCK!!!

Pics
Good work, you two!

PetDuck, the tiny little things like parasites, bacteria, mold, those are sneaky. You are on the case. I feel you are doing everything a human being is capable of.

Okay, on to the clinic!

Personally during recovery I would try to get her to eat almost anything. Fruits, veggies, pasta or baby food like chx or turkey. You can get powder chick starter for her water. I have read some studies in raising meat ducks using liquid from sugarcane or raw sugar in addition to their protein intake so I don't think a little sugar will hurt. But you can ask your vet.

I took the sample to the bet and thank god it came back negative!! I called Dr. Whittington when we got home and the receptionist said he was out and to leave a message so I told her to tell the doctor that it came out negative and what else to do. The receptionist called me back about 10 minutes ago and told me that Dr. Whittington had a stroke! They said they don't know the next time he will be in is...

So back to you guys, any ideas on what to do now? About force feeding, someone said not to because I might get something abrasive in her lungs. What do I do?

I was just talking to haunted55 and she had a bit of advise also Pmed casportpony who haunted says knows how to tube feed so hopefully we'll hear from her also. But in the meantime haunted 55 says to get some poultry vitamins mix amount they say for 1/2 gal of water but your going to be putting it into 1 cup instead[think mega dose] also mix the calcium /vit d that you got from the vet into this mixture and use a 3 mil or larger syringe with out needle of course and have someone help hold the duck while you open her bill put syringe on the right side of her throat as far back as you can and very slowly start putting in this mixture [right side is food side tube on ducks.] She thinks if you can get the vitamins mixture into her for 24 hrs you should see a turn around where she'll begin to eat. I have no idea Pet Duck I am relaying a message to you from 3rd party.

Call the vet near you and ask if they have any catheters that you could tube feed with. I tube fed a swan I fostered when I was a tech at the humane society. They should be able to measure it (tape mark it so you know how far) and show you how. you should be able to feel the placement in her neck. I'm wondering if the antibiotic regiment was long enough.

PetDuck, I wanted to check in here. I am not ignoring you. I am thinking really hard. You say she has been eating worms. That is very good. And no parasites. That's good, too. If she is eating a good amount, even if it's just worms, then maybe you go with that for another day or so. I think vitamins would be really good, just in her water. If the vet's office can refer to you another vet to call, maybe that would help.

In light of mara1's idea, perhaps a vet tech at that office can help you.
