Used egg cartons.....?

So turns out, the cartons are $160 for 2000, 8 cents a carton. They can go up to 30 cents a carton, but hopefully the guy quotes me for the minimum. :D
A little more than 0.03;) The .08 still much better than 30 cents/ea. It is bad when the package costs as much as the product!

That's weird; I never knew it was illegal in some places. We don't have chickens, but we've given plenty of used egg cartons away to people who do have them, and our cartons are never nasty.

To sell eggs in AZ, here is the info:
https://agriculture.az.gov/animals/animal-services-inspections/egg-inspections
Quote: "In addition to registering, they are required to properly label their eggs and keep them under refrigeration at 45 degrees F or less. Nest Run Producers are prohibited from using trade marked or trade name cartons belonging to other companies."
Every state has a different rule.

I'll give you a couple links. In my state we can't re-use cartons. I think the best price I've found for less than a pallet was around 27 cents. I think falcon was in the 18-20 cent range but don't know what the minimum quantity is.

That seems like the way to go, short of ordering direct from China. In AZ we have a limit of 750 dozen a year before having to be "inspected" and "graded".

This is what I was looking at as a "BYOC" egg carton that customers could return, OK in the dishwasher. At $1.88 each, a $2.00 deposit was my thought, just like the old time milk bottle deposit.

I've heard feedback on these in the past...a couple things to consider:
No cushion...hard material is less forgiving to jostling.
Not flexible...larger and/or longer eggs may not fit, can't 'squeeze' cover shut.
But they are washable...so <shrugs>

Yes, non-standard eggs need not apply! But, I have had one for years for camping, they survive in coolers. Mine is old, maybe the new ones are not so good? What I like is that I can put fresh eggs in the cooler, and it keeps them from breaking even when the ice melts.
