Using a nipple waterer AND a traditional water simultaneously?

Welcome to BYC! I have had good luck with nipple waterers, although I’ve had to replace a few of them due to leaking.

Welcome good question. One thing I discovered with my horiz. nipple waterer was it worked great but I needed a small hole in lid to break the suction in container. Before we did that it barely came out of nipples. I use 2 horiz. waterers and one with cups in summer. They like the cup one in hot months and I think it helps them cool off as their wattles get wet as well. I use old ice cream buckets and one big trash can for the waterers .

Great advice, thanks. We made a small hole and now the water comes out faster. We also ordered a cup waterer (can be switched out with nipples) to use during the hot summer as an additional water source. I think it will make me feel better

As for the waterer, I think leave it in for about a day and see if they catch on. As long as they know how to do it, and their brooder isn’t too warm, they should be ok!
