Using DE with baby chicks

Should I put any DE in the brooder with my baby chicks? They are suppose to arrive next Friday and I didn't know wether I should sprinkle any in the pine shavings or not?

I do. I do it with my meaties, my turkeys, all my broodies get DE in their nests and also once the babies hatch. I couldn't imagine getting little mites or anything on my babies.

I've never heard of not being able to do it.

Sorry but what is DE?

It's pretty rough on their respiratory systems. I'd wait until they are a bit older and not as close to the shavings. I use it with the big girls but not the babies. If they are inside they don't need it anyway.
