using human dishes to feed chickens--safe?

I used to be easily grossed out... then I had a child. I got pooed on... barfed on... peed on... boogered and slobbered on daily. So, I got over it and learned that pretty much anything can be cleaned up and sanitized... no biggie! In life you are bound to get a little dirty - most of the time while you are having a whole lot of fun.

There's my problem right there...I have no children!!! Can I borrow some and get desensitized?

Oh my... I'm cracking up! You better be careful with that offer... you will have a line of people willing to take you up on it!

I use Pyrex around the farm for putting water in. I fill it up so the chickens don't have to go back & forth to the coop for water as they free range . They let me know when its empty.

I went to my grand dads one day and ate lunch with him. I noticed the plate had some little scrap of food left on it. "Granddad is the plate clean?" Granddad replied, "Only as clean as cold water can get it."
Well as I was saying good bye and thanking for a wonderful lunch and we needed to do this more often. As he was walking me to my car his dog started jumping up trying to play. Granddad hollared at it, " Get down cold water, be nice!"

..........

Not really just a joke, but its funny!

i bought an old wooden dish from a boot sale and i put the chickens treats in it every day, they are so used to it they wait by the gate every afternoon, my dogs like to lick it clean when i fetch it in ( not that there is anything left to lick off !!), but i dont think i would use our plates for their food, like someone else said the plastic containers that have ready meals in are pretty usefull, all animal plates and dishes are washed up last in the washing up water.

thank good ness Im not the only one!!! I bring the pots and pans down everynight after dinner so they get all leftovers!!! Yup Ive grossed many a folks out but I rinse all things after then in hot soapy water-dishwasher in the end:)

I feed from whatever I have handy. I also eat out of stainless dog dishes too. We all seem to share dishes at my place. Living alone has it's advantages. None of us has ever suffered any ill effects from sharing.

Most of the time, the chickens treats go in a special treat bowl. Only because when they are free ranging and it is time to get them back in the coop, all I have to do is put their treats for the day in that bowl and show it to them. It's like the Pied Piper, except with chickens- I'm walking to the run gate, and they are all trailing behind me because they know that bowl! LOL The babies in the brooder, however, do get their cooked eggs on a saucer. It goes in the dishwasher, and we've never had a problem.

As for the dog and cats licking plates- well, if you have a problem with that, don't come to my house. Again, it all goes in the dishwasher, where the water temp is quite high enough to kill anything that MIGHT be on there. As others have said, we put raw meat on cutting boards and plates, raw egg in bowls, and don't think twice about reusing them after washing. I don't see the difference.
