It's used by the big chicken houses because it's the best product to use to keep your chickens healthy! I'M not going to write an article but I will try and keep it simple for you to understand how to use it in the drinking water. Stop slime build up in the drinkers and the spread of disease and viruses. MIX 3.2 OZ of OXINE AH (= 6tab. + 2tea) with 2 tea. of Citric Acid and let it set for 10 min. Then add 2Tab to One Gallon of water and pour it into the chickens drinking water and it will drop the water 5 ppm so bacteria can't grow. Make a new batch everyday. I give it for 2 weeks before breeding. Then i give probiotics to the birds. DON'T add penicillin or oxytetracycline products or probiotics in the water but you can add VITAMINS to the water. This will keep your chickens healthy. I use it 3 x a week all year around especially when humidity is high. Later I will write about how you can use it as a disinfectant. I hope this was helpful and believe me there isn't anything better on the market today. Also u can buy both products together. Walmart may even have it online.

Thank you for this very useful information!

Hello Birdman019 -
I have been using activated oxine in my birds water for years. Can I ask why you should not add antibiotics to the water? What about adding denagard to the activated water?
I have also simplified your measurements for a smaller flock - 1gram citric acid to 10cc oxine. Let it change colors then give 1cc activated oxine to a gallon of water.
I performed my own clinical study at home with microplasma and it successfully wiped out microplasma (bubbles in the eyes)
Humans drink chlorinated water with their antibiotics. Just trying to think this process through.
Thank you!!

Don't trust posters that dump a bunch of know-it-all "information" then disappear never to be heard from again. This post is 3 years old and only got 1 reply back then. Chickens don't need anything added to their water to stay healthy. Treat only if you have a reason to - if you have a weak/sick chicken, not as prevention and even if you're treating and put something in the water, they should always have clean fresh water available in a separate container in addition to the water that has something in it. And definitely don't use antibiotics unless you have a prescription from a vet. Using them willy-nilly builds resistance in bacteria and leads to the situation we are in right now, where the indiscriminate use of antibiotics by the farming industry has built so much resistance that the antibiotics no longer work as they should, leaving people and their animals helpless when a disease does break out.
