USPS Damaged My Incubator!!!!! (PICS)Updated 7/13/09

In any business transaction there is a reasonable expectation of a standard of care and professionalism. In this case the standard would be that the package is delivered intact. I understand that there are 667 million packages delivered daily, but the folks doing the deliveries for the USPS are professionals and their product (delivering packages) should be held to an industry standard.

If you think you can do it better, have at it.

I see SO many people here ranting about the poor service from the postal service. If they're so terrible, why do you continue using them?

I see this on a daily basis as a mailman, this package "box"was not designed to go thru the mail system, this box was designed to be ship to the us on a pallet and wrapped in shrink wrap. People will often take a box like this, wrap in duct tape and believe that is "good enough" and in reality is is not. We seem to go through this subject quite often. This box should of been put in a stronger box w/some extra padding to ensure it ships safely, second, insurance should of been purchased as well. MOST packages I see that are damaged are the fault of the shipper due to faulty packaging, or the unwillingness to pay to properly secure their stuff, but a few are not, these packages are shipped w/other packages on planes and semis sometimes thousands of miles and we do our best to ensure their safe delivery.

Because we have too! I can assure you that from now on that I'll use another company.

I don't care if it had been shipped in a stronger "box". It wouldn't have made it through the "care" of the USPS. I just can't understand why its just ok that the USPS damaged this box.

I am a seller of products on FeeBay, as much as I hate to say this the seller is at fault. I bought my first incubator off of FeeBay and it was packaged the original box inside a box with padding. There is no padding to protect the product in the original display box, that is just wrong whether they had got away with it in the past. Had it been packaged properly it would not have been damaged, but the shipping fees would have been much higher for an oversize package. Mine came by UPS which there package charges are different. Part of the problem is with buyers expecting to get products without paying proper shipping. Charge the appropriate rate and get dinged or negative feedback. FeeBay created a hostile selling place when it made changes. Without those changes your package probably would have been packaged properly but you would have paid more.

Anything you hold dear or of value should be insured, remember when you do feedback that overly aggressive feedback is running off good sellers and making more problems. Do what you can to recoup your loss, if successful or unsuccessful move on, and do not stress your health over a incubator. If the incubator is not returned, repair it and use it. Test the epoxy first on a test piece, and use it if it works, if not there is caulking adhesive that is designed for Styrofoam. You can also order I am sure just the styro from the manufacturer, or representative.

This is just crazy! I can tell you without a doubt that this would have gotten damaged REGARDLESS or weither or not it was in another box. I can not beleive that everyone is just overlooking the fact that the USPS mis handled this box. I don't remember one post that has blamed the USPS at all.

From the looks of the damage I'm guessing a airport forklift baggage handler was the culprit, not a postal employee. But no matter how you look at it or who you blame, it is not worth getting sick over. sometimes peace of mind is just more important than material thangs.

Whether is would have been damaged or not if packaged properly we will not know because it was not packaged properly. As a former trucker, I refused any shipment that was not loaded or packaged properly. The post office does not know what is in the box, so they do not know if it is properly packaged. I have though seen during xmass them refuse packages improperly packaged.

I hope somebody reimburses you for the mistake, but again you may have to live with it. Trust me I have over my life stressed over insignificant thangs. And after two heart attacks, I learned, don't wait that long to learn.

If the USPS would just be more careful then we wouldn't have all these complaints they should not be able to toss around boxes and stuff because they wouldn't encourage anybody thats shipping there delivery to throw it around

What gets me is that fact that the PO just says that "there is nothing we can do". As a person that has worked in customer service before, I just can't take that as an answer. In all likelyhood, I will just have to live with it. I understand that but it just blows me away that everybody just seems to think that the USPS had nothing to do with the damage. I have learned my lesson, not only will I get ins the next time, I WONT use the USPS ever again to ship a package.
Am I the only person with this point of view?

This may not make me popular, but I blame postal employees. I've received many boxes that were well packed, clearly marked "fragile" and still contained damaged items. The post master here is completely nonplussed by complaints. Damaged boxes aren't the only issue I have with the P.O. I just received some VERY important tax documents that were mailed more than a month ago from a few blocks away. I could have had some serious problems had the DOL employee not decided to call me directly. The postal worker says she won't deliver our mail until we get a box she can reach without getting out of her truck. The only reason we get any mail at all is that the private contract delivery person does get out to deliver the mail. People who get paid regardless of whether they do their job or not, tend to not do their job.
