USPS scrambled eggs with pics.

I do understand where you are coming from bc i am not a 'complainer' myself; however, considering that
a. the box was marked fragile --SOMEONE somewhere dropped the ball and they need to get to the bottom of it.
b. the box was marked CALL upon arrival---big tip that the package was time sensitive and the PO should have taken care of that responsibility
c. the fact that it was a 48 hr delivery---again a big tip that it was time sensitive

What can come of your complaint: well if this person is notorious for this kind of service it should be documented or it will never stop--- you help others that depend upon safe delivery get that safe delivery that is derserved and expected. If the PO can not determine negligence, then at least they can have an overall consensus that safe delivery of fragile items is paramount and hopefully will relay that message to all carriers.

I haven't ever ordered eggs. I would like too someday but am fearful of this kind of arrival. I do order "fragiles" often in the mail and haven't ever received a broken package yet (that is why i think the PO --albeit--somewhere down the line needs to be notified) .I am in a rural area as well.

anyway, i really hope your BRs survive..... I just got some BR chicks and they are soooooo friendly... LOVE them LOVE them... :-)

Keep us posted on your hatch!!! Best of luck to you.

I am sorry that your eggs did not all make it to your door in one piece. From all that I have read here on BYC I don't think I will take a chance with shipped eggs. Lets pray you have a good hatch with what you have.

Did you read the thread on "What does fragile mean"??
Good insight from some P.O workers! If you live in a rural area...it is always a good idea to talk to your mail carrier....also let the P.O. know what you are expecting in the mail, and when and how important it is to get them immediately. I actually make up a small posting with the info on it and explanation and my phone number and give it to the P.O a few days in advance and ask them to have it where it can be read. They call me when they arrive ---just like when I used to get chicks...I drive there and pick them up!

Yes, I read the thread. I do believe talking to my PO folks BEFORE may help, but I did not do that this time.

Both my egg shipments came 100% perfect. Batch #1 came from Ohio (I live in N. Michigan) and she had bubble wrapped each egg and put those eggs inside more bubblewrap inside a box of shredded newspaper. The second batch came from N. Hampshire...and the seller had foam squares with egg shaped cutouts for each egg. The foam squares containing the eggs were surrounded by bubble wrap and foam. As you can tell...they were wrapped better than yours. That may be part of it.

I did have some packaging feedback for my shipper. Bottom line is the buyer accepts the shipping risks and shipping eggs is a very risky proposition.

Twister is correct. You really should report the condition in which your special delivery arrived. Imagine if it would have been live chicks. Ok, maybe the peeping would be a giveaway......

Anyway, if more people reported the terrible conditions in which their packages arrived, maybe someone would actually get off their duffs and do something about it. If you make a report, you might save the next person ordering eggs from the same potential heartbreak.
You can post a complaint online, and definitely attach those pictures, making sure you get some pics of the words "fragile" and "call" on the box. There is no excuse for that to have happened to you, especially the "call" part. That is negligence on their part. I have made a complaint online to the post office in the past, and I know they do look into the problems. If there is a breakdown in their shipping line somewhere, they need to be made aware of it, or it will just continue to occur.
I am sorry to hear of your terrible experience and hope for the best for the surviving eggs. Keep us posted on their progress.

I feel your pain. We've had nothing but problems with our P.O. I asked them early on to never deliver packages to our mailbox. To please call us when any package arrives and we'll come get it. Nope. Still ride the eggs around all day in the carrier's car and dump in mailbox. Broken eggs one time, but could have happened at any sort facility. I even have everyone shipping to me put instructions to call my number when the package comes in. Still couldn't get P.O. to hold all our packages. Called them every morning and sometimes caught packages, sometimes they'd have one and another went out with the carrier. I chased my mailman down and talked to her personally and she promised not to deliver any more packages. But, when she is off duty and a sub comes in... same thing. I'm pretty nice, but finally got fed up. Asked for forms at P.O. to file a complaint and was told there was no such thing. Hummm. Went online and found the place to file a complaint. Boy did I unload. The NEXT DAY the post master called me into his office and apologized. They now hold all packages and call me. Higher powers must have given him the word. Hope that helps. FYI, the USPS will not insure eggs against breakage.

I agree...but the feedback will be helpful to the shipper so it is good you let them know.

I don't know. I think "ya pays yo money 'n takes yo chances". I have been very lucky with the eggs I bought so far, but the way some have been packed - I really don't know how they got here in one piece.

OP paid for 48 eggs and got 47. I think the shipper packed pretty well and accounted for possible losses in a responsible manner - good for seller. It can't be easy to pack 48 eggs.

Post office, well, it is what it is. Things happen. When you think about it, there aren't many things more fragile than eggs!
