I agree, I think the seasons are shifting too.

Hmmm, so both my husband and myself work at a local ski resort too. I just sent you a PM.

I just have to tell you what happened to my Mom today. She called me so excited and about ready to jump through the phone. I'm the one that was looking for a white Silkie Bantam for my Mom for her birthday and found one from a guy in West Jordan. Turns out it's not a pure breed so Mom's a little disappointed because her first girl won a trophy she was so beautiful. She says Miss Fluff looks like a cross between a chicken and a duck. She still loves her though.
Anyway, on to today. So she called so excited to tell me that Miss Fluff laid her very first egg! At first she thought someone was playing a joke on her and stuck one in there but then she realized it was smaller than a regular sized egg and it came from her very own hen. She was soooo excited!
After I got off work we talked about eggs for a good 10 minutes and she said it has been 60 years since she gathered eggs so she's forgotten everything she used to know. She's still tickled pink about it though and kept smiling through the phone. It was so awesome. I loved it!

Glad to hear your mom's enjoying re-entering 'chicken-ing' once again!

Hey! Is anyone here interested in a white silkie roo? He just found his voice this morning (at precisely 6 am I might add---with our windows open it was a nice wake up call---and hasn't stopped yet).
Oh-- I should add-- I'm in Salt Lake.

Pullets for sale!

I'm only going to sell 10 of my birds. 1 Barred Plymouth Rock, 1 Golden Sex Link, 1 Rhode Island Red, my 2 Delaware Roosters, and 5 Delaware hens.
However, I'd like to sell the Delaware Roos in a breeding trio (1 roo, 2 hens).

Sorry to disappoint. I know some of you wanted a few Delawares, but they are such sweet birds that I want to keep as many as I can this year...

Oh man, they are the coolest birds ever!
I still can't get the RIR's or GLS's to eat out of my hand. The Delawares were the first to do that, and some will let me pick them up. So far, I like the Delawares the best of all the breeds I've had. But, let's see how their egg production is...

I want to integrate my 3 Americana's in with the "baby girls" flock, but I think I have too many to try that yet. Figured I'd start early advertising and see what kind of response I got.

My RIR's are the tamest of all, and will eat out of my hand and sit on my lap without me holding them there. The Americana cuddles if I am feeding her. The Peep Squad (the 6 babies I got from IFA) are not tame at all, despite being raised under the same conditions as the little Delawares.

Jaws and Meg (the Delawares) would probably eat out of my hand if the big girls weren't pushing them out of the way. The don't really want to be picked up, but in my experience all of them are a bit more docile when they are laying. They all get pretty flighty and weird when they molt.

The Peep Squad discovered that the bird feeder has treats in it, and spent a couple of days trying to figure out if they could get into it. After repeated failures, they just decided they will hang out underneath and catch what the little finches spill.

So,
I had a thought;

You guys ever wonder if you could sell eggs at a farmers market? I think I'd like to try, but
1) I don't have near enough eggs and
2) I wouldn't know if it would be worth it.

Any thoughts?
How about an egg co-op?

Marty
